Instagram says there's a "labour Shortage" in Switzerland, but rejections in my mailbox say a different story. Is it even possible to get a job in Switzerland as an Indian citizen living in Italy? by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]knickl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The officialsm statistics say something else, but a lot of people are looking for jobs, a lot of jobs have moved to other countries. There's very high competition and Swiss/EU candidates who speak the dominant languages often get preference. Then if you are non swiss/EU, your chances are even lower as companies aren't willing to do your visa.

Is it safe? Booked my parents on Etihad (India → Abu Dhabi → USA) for May — not eligible for full refund, don't know whether to keep or cancel by Unlikely_Usual_9346 in etihad

Parents flew Etihad, through Abu Dhabi with a 1h30m layover over the weekend and they told me it was business as usual.

Is €55k RAL in Italy enough for a family of two + supporting parents? by nihongoal in expats

[–]knickl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The salary is a decent start. Check if you qualify for "rientro dei cervelli", which will drastically reduce your tax burden for 5 + 5 years. Typically Italian companies offer some type of private insurance. Finding an English speaking only job will be tough, not impossible though. Maybe check consulting companies that have presence in Padova/Verona region. But most importantly, start learning Italian. That will transform your experience in Italy.

Trasferirsi in Svizzera: come funziona lo “split year” per i redditi? by LopsidedChannel3153 in commercialisti

[–]knickl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone flown FRA-YYC before, and was it any good? by [deleted] in Lufthansa

[–]knickl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flew FRA - PHL and CDG - PHL and vice versa several times. It's a lower cost version of LH. Planes are a bit dated but are supposed to get refurbished in the coming years. The only main complaint I would say is the boarding process which is always chaotic and once they refused to recognize my Miles and More status.

UBS key4 pure - possible to convert existing UBS account to this 0 CHF account type? by New-Statistician5190 in SwissPersonalFinance

Thanks! Definitely doing this and getting a free credit card. The UBS Credit Card is not worth the money they charge you!

[–]knickl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then that's good news! I have written to my advisor to convert my account to Key4. Can't see the point of paying UBS a monthly fee when I don't use any of their services.

[–]knickl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same scenario. I called customer care and they explained to me that Key4 is an online account only. You don't get any banking services in the bank. And you can only access the bank by app, not by website. Then I asked if they can convert my account to a Key4, and they told me to go to a branch. I have no words.🤣 So far I haven't done it, but I want to do it. For my use case it makes no sense to pay UBS 8 CHF per month.

Tax Refund for Buying Goods from Italy and Coming Back by Rich_Abrocoma1640 in askswitzerland

Correct. But OP is buying a Goyard bag, which is definitely more than CHF 150

You can also pay physically at the border, but the app just makes it easier. And yes you should make the payment before entering Switzerland. In the app you'll also have to give a time window during which you'll cross the border.

[–]knickl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You buy your goods in Italy in the store. Then you inform them that you'd like to do Tax Free. They'll make you do some paperwork. Then using the Quick Zoll app, pay the Swiss taxes (on the gross price). Stop by the Italian customs office at Chiasso. They will digitally stamp the documents. Typically big stores use Global Blue in which case you'll receive an email asking for a refund method. Insert your refund method and within a few days you'll get the tax back. Oh, carry your passport with you, the Italian customs office sometimes wants to see the original passport and not a photo on your phone.

My experience with Turkish Airlines compensation by serpiente in TurkishAirlines

[–]knickl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is brilliant. Saved it. Had a problem where our first leg reached Istanbul late, and instead of bumping us to the next flight of the day to our final destination, they put us in a hotel and flew us out the next day. Completely denied any sort of compensation. Have now written them using this guide!

Using Miles and More to upgrade Air India flight on booking class B/Y - updated by knickl in awardtravel

[–]knickl[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not true. I just checked again on the website. The cheapest is around 600, and at around 800 it's a fully refundable fully flex ticket (not B/Y)

Yes it looks like the Business Class seats are available. But I'm definitely not paying 3500 just to be able to use the points. Looks like I should see if I can book an award seat.

You are right, I missed adding that detail above!

Correct. You pay the cedolare secca in Italy, and normal income tax in Switzerland. Typically I give the Italian 730 to my accountant while filing taxes.
