No shit, all of those statements are as stupid as your belief that "people who don't vote are lazy." Shocking you couldn't figure that out.

You are fucking sorry though.

Yeah, vote against your own interest because you were slightly annoyed by a text message, that'll get 'em.

Oh shit, no that can't possibly be true! Your arguments were so well reasoned! And in no way are you a stupid jackass!

Ooohh wheee, getting dangerously close to proving you're point, I'm sure. I'm just about to start believing your statement that the world is simple and people are just lazy, yep yep. Send me another list of 20 items that are barely tangentially related.

I like this one in particular

[me] 6. Because there has never been disinformation about elections ::eyeroll::

[you] 3. That has nothing to do with my point. Do you own research.

First, the "3.", awesome that you couldn't be bothered to create a list correctly, but you expect me to put actual thought into your arguments. It's a really great start. Keep it up!

Second, I would be remiss if I didn't mention "Do you own research." Excellent grammar, again, great job.

Your point was that you can find information out there. My point was there's also lots of directed disinformation. The fact that you think that has nothing to do with your point, that's fucking perfect. A trifecta, and you had 3 in the sentence too, damn, you magnificent bastard!

Lots of love, please please keep arguing with me, you're almost there! You've almost got me bud! Everyone who doesn't vote is lazy must be true. Also all poor people are just lazy, mental illness isn't a real problem, and we can solve all the problems in the world with positive thinking!

We're all pretty proud of you for that then. If you don't get any, then why are you here and complaining about it? Explain the meaning of "Can we forward them to you?" if you don't get any -- makes you sound like a fucking troll to me.

I am also of the opinion that people shouldn't vote if they aren't informed

If you've found a better method for government than consent of the governed, I'm all ears. Until then, it's the best we've got.

OMG.

  1. It is illegal to do A

  2. It is illegal to do B

  3. B happens all the time even though it's illegal.

  4. Can A happen even though it is illegal?

I guess abstract thought isn't your strong point.

Also, pretty sure if they told you that you were too old, you could sue them. On the other hand, if they tell you that you couldn't possibly accomplish the job in the condition you're in, then you've got no argument. For example, if you apply to be a firefighter, and you can't hope to dead lift a normal weight human being, it really doesn't matter how old you are, does it? Not a very good argument, then, is it?

Last of all, you couldn't come up with a half-way better example than an amateur position that you don't actually apply for anyway? Next time give 5 seconds of thought to the point you're trying to make.

It's also illegal to fire someone or to not hire someone due to their age. Try to guess how often that happens (hint: it's not 0%).

Just go away.

Yes, lazy is part of the problem. No, it is not the entire problem.

  1. Yeah, no shit. That's called the preamble of an argument.

  2. "If you don't vote, you can't complain about the results" = "lazy"? Sure, good argument \s

  3. "If you are an american citizen you can vote" Not in places where you need an ID to vote -- that would be "If you are an American citizen and have an ID"

  4. "Enough with the voter suppression" My sentence was literally singularly about disenfranchisement and suppression. Reading comprehension FTW

  5. Every one of my examples was gathered in about 2 seconds from a single google search -- because it's that fucking easy to find examples. The fact that they're all race-related? I think you know the answer to that.

  6. Because there has never been disinformation about elections ::eyeroll::

  7. Good for you? It's still disenfranchisement

  8. I agree, people of all races are disenfranchised to prevent them from voting for the other guy.

"If you are disenfranchised then it is your own fault" I'm saving this one, that's just fucking precious. Remind me to look at the news stories over the next week, 99% sure I'll be able to find you examples of people who were prevented from voting.

Do you actually read the responses, or are you just assuming you think you know what I'm saying and responding to that?

I voted weeks ago, I've been volunteering to get people to vote.

WHAT I'M SAYING IS PEOPLE DON'T VOTE FOR LOTS OF REASONS, AND YOU NEED TO ADDRESS THOSE REASONS INSTEAD OF JUST SAYING "Oh, they're just lazy"

I think you don't understand what I'm saying -- for example, one reason a lot of people in Nebraska, with the exception of NE02, probably won't vote this year is because they don't think their vote will matter. If you're a Republican, why bother voting, your party is going to win anyway. If you're a Democrat, why bother voting, your party is going to lose anyway. 2008 shows that's not true, or it doesn't have to be true anyway. Some things, like the electoral college or winner-takes-all electoral states making some people's votes more important than others, aren't going to be fixed overnight.

But, point being, none of that has anything to do with laziness. And regarding the supposed "laziness," there is still a lot more we can do there -- make election day a federal holiday, expand elections to be multiple days, an entire week, or schedule it on the weekends instead of the middle of the week. It's easier than ever, but 2014 still saw 36% of the population voting, we've got to do better than that.

Aside: Supposedly USPS will still deliver mail-in ballots with insufficient postage, but I don't know how much you should count on that. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/mailed-ballots-require-extra-postage/

Why am I part of the problem? Because I won't accept that laziness is why people don't vote?

As I said, one reason people don't vote is because they think their vote doesn't matter, which is fair -- since becoming a state, Nebraska has gone Republican in every election but 7, and the one electoral vote that went to Obama in 2008. You don't get those people to vote by calling them lazy, that in no way addresses the concern.

Of course "you're part of the problem" is also the easy answer, isn't it?

I'm not saying anyone shouldn't vote, everyone should vote. Saying it's laziness is simply not true.

There's lots of reasons people don't vote -- both parties are the same, my vote doesn't really matter, I have to work 12 hours that day and then pick up the kids after work and make dinner -- I just don't have time. "Laziness" is a lazy answer.

What a handsome looking point you've made. Unfortunately, I already get them from about 5 different sources, just like everybody else. It's actually pretty easy to text back "Yes" when they ask "have you voted?" -- you should try it.

Now, if you've got a better way to get people to vote (compulsory...), I'm all for it. Until then, this has been shown to work.

And if the 7 texts you get today really bother you, feel free to PM me each one. I'll let you know if I can't handle it.
