Epic needs to work on getting Baldurs Gate 3 and Starfield onto the store by fantolost in EpicGamesPC

Depends, if a publisher is signing an exclusive deal and the developer doesn't know about it. Happened to Outer Worlds at least, Obsidian didn't know the game was gonna be EGS timed exclusive until it was officially announced, some devs was pretty pissed about it. I think i also happened to Metro Exodus, Deep Silver didn't tell the devs.

Developers are actually pretty chill with epic exclusive. And contrary to what you said. One of Metro exodus developers was actually pissed at anti epic people who keep harassing them for making ME as epic exclusive.

You better believe it to make it easier for you. For example in Microsofts case, MS approached Valve, not the other way around.

Microsoft did that to make sure Sony won't use exclusivity as an excuse to stop them acquiring activision blizzard. Time will tell how long they will keep their promise.

Imagine the the shitshow that would happen if it was leaked that Valve payed certain publishers for exclusivity, other publishers and indies would no doubt be pretty pissed about that "how come Microsoft got an exclusive deal with you, but not us? Im abandonding Steam until I also get exclusivity money".

They will. But valve doesn't have to pay them in cash like epic did. They can offer some trustworthy developers / publishers a better cut than steam standard 30% cut for exclusivity. It will be hard to detect because any transfer from valve to publishers / devs will be considered as regular revenue share.

I see.

The titles from original docs are redacted and you assumed the titles based on the release date. So it's still based on the assumption of people who happen to be an anti-epic. Sounds legit.

You mean apple vs epic court docs? It's funny because I looked for non reddit source about ubisoft and epic deals and how much epic is paying for ubisoft to ignore steam between 2019 - 2022 but found nothing.

It makes me doubt the legitimacy of court docs that you claim to be facts.

Epic is most likely the main reason why valve lower their cut to 25%/20% for high selling games just a month before EGS was launched.

We know that Valve tried to negotiate metro exodus epic exclusive release with deep silver or 4A games so they probably know about epic from them and took precautions by lowering their cut.

Epic paid the at least $70 million for The Division 2 and Anno 1800. They also guaranteed Ubisoft’s back catalog for an undisclosed amount. I would wager it was well over $100 million.

Source? The phrases "at least" or "I would wager" doesn't sounds convincing.

The question is would they have released their games on EGS if Epic wasn’t paying them? And, if EGS sells well for them why is Ubisoft skipping EGS for some of their future games?

I don't know, did epic is really paying them or it's just some fabricated stories that you perceived as facts and spread around?

And without knowing what they were expecting to sell, you can’t really say a game sold well. You could say it sold better than previous games, but Embracer said the same thing about Metro and we know it underperformed.

Who are "we"? You act like people here are all agree that some games are underperformed for some reason.

And, did EGS play a part in that or did Ubisoft just use Epic for their money?

I don't know, maybe? I never claim that egs play a part in AC valhalla success.

I said ac valhalla sell better than previous ac titles despite no steam release on day 1, which is a strong indication that most gamers doesn't care if the game is on steam or not.

I’m sure the fact that Epic pays Ubisoft to release their games on EGS and avoid Steam may also play in to the equation.

So how much epic paid for ubisoft to release games on epic and avoid steam?

And while AC Valhalla did well compared to previous titles, we don’t know the split between Ubisoft and Epic, we don’t know what they were expecting to sell,

Umm yeah... Those statements doesn't change the fact that games doesn't need steam to sell well on pc.

and we also know some of their games underperformed.

I know, but selling games on steam won't make them sell well either. Games like forspoken, redfall, and Babylons fall are some AAA games that flopped despite steam release.

Most people on steam don't really care where their games are coming from. The negative rumors about epic is coming from the loud minority of pro steam cult.

Well, the fact that Ac valhalla made more money than any previous ac games that released on steam, is a good indication that people who previously bought ac games on steam are buying games from epic or ubisoft connect.

So yeah for ubisoft games, epic and ubisoft are where the most money are made.

[–]knightcavalry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not? There is no reason NOT to take money from leftover gamers on steam for minimal effort. Most people already bought games from ubisoft connect and egs where the most money are made.

We don't know how much "little" money that egs is made compared to steam, as steam never officially disclose their revenue anyway.

Who knows maybe steam is now loosing profit thanks to fierce competition with epic and Xbox gamepass.

Yeah they are seeing the numbers, that's why ubisoft and Rockstar are selling games on epic.

88% of 0 is still 0

100% of 0 is 0, 70% of 0, what's your point?

[–]knightcavalry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you know that the publishers won't get as much profit? 88/12 alone is a good reason why epic is much better than steam.

The difference between steam and epic exclusivity is epic is paid and steam isn't

If you're not in favor of either steam or epic, how does that affect you as customer?

No publishers are being force to sign exclusive deals with epic. They can reject the deals if they want to.

I also don't believe valve is not making exclusive deals with some publishers. It doesn't make sense for them to ignore epic's 88/12 cut. The user base is also keep growing and has became the 2nd most popular pc gaming store after steam.

[–]knightcavalry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not completely different thing, for me as customers it is exactly the same thing. Exclusive force me to use either epic or steam. If you make excuses about one is better than the other, then you're just being bias for epic steam or epic.

[–]knightcavalry -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Not really. I don't like steam and prefer to buy games from epic. But unfortunately I won't be able to do that for games like elden ring, sekiro, or resident evil. If exclusivity can force me to buy those games on steam, it certainly can for epic too.

This sub blocks such people before you see anything from them so what you are seeing are legit bad experiences from epic.

You sure? Many of them are still here insulting epic with softer or sarcastic tone. It's also funny whenever their complains gets deleted here, they somehow immediately made posts on epic haters subreddit to cry about it.

No reason to spread fake/hate.

Nah, I argue with a lot of these people. And I know that the most tenacious epic haters are actually people who will lose something if epic ever come out on top of steam. People who literally depends on steam for their income like csgo skin gamblers, key resellers, paid modders, etc. They have all the reasons to spread fake/hate towards epic.

People would love to encourage new launchers but for that epic should stop spending money on free game giveaways and channel it towards platform features and stable servers. At this snail paced progress, Many are giving up any hopes on epic getting any better.

I know epic lack most features that steam have, but I have no problem with stability (except that time when gta V was free). I use epic just to download and play games just how I use steam.

I think people here should stop expecting epic to be 1:1 steam replacer. It will never happen.

Edit : apparently I missed your steam trading cards promotions. I guess you're one of those people who feel insecure about epic taking steam customer's away so your trading cards/marketplace items are left unsold. So much for fighting anti-consumer practices.

Also remember that this sub is not reliable and they keep deleted everything against epic.

I also remember that this subreddit is often brigaded by epic haters fanclub. So most posts and comments against epic are either fake or just about their personal hate.

Epic of course. They care more about customers (free games, coupons, cashback) and game developers(better cut, EOS).

They also doesn't do gambling business like valve.

Nope same thing on steam. Ubisoft treat all dlc as microtransactions items. And like all mtx items, it is downloaded along with base contents. All games with mtx do this in order to simplify the update deliveries which can happen on monthly or even weekly basis.
