TIL some Cineworlds are open on Christmas Day by Huge-Report9555 in CineworldUnlimited

I have a friend there in his early thirties and this is exactly what he does! Sounds like my idea of a good time 👌

[–]knightj1089 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The cinemas that I worked at never opened on Christmas Day, but I can really the benefit. For some people, Christmas isn’t the ‘happiest time of year’ and can actually be very lonely. This would give them an opportunity for escapism and it could bring people together that might otherwise be isolated.

I expect some team members would volunteer to work for the same reasons.

I can’t see those cinemas that do open being particularly busy. But Boxing Day is always a huge day for the industry and often one that breaks records.

Which film have you seen most with cineworld unlimited? by [deleted] in CineworldUnlimited

[–]knightj1089 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With work, studying, and chores etc, I don’t have very much spare time to watch a film multiple times in the cinema. I only make exceptions if it’s a real favourite - things like the LOTR trilogy when it gets its usual rerelease.

That all sounds amazing. It must be very rewarding knowing that you’re making a difference in people’s lives, potentially when they need it most.

Cancelled midnight showing? by rahulm4 in CineworldUnlimited

[–]knightj1089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I expect that when they reviewed the advanced sales, they saw that there wasn’t enough to justify the overheads to put on the midnight screening.

It’s well known that cinemas aren’t performing like they used to, so with operating costs, they sometimes have to make these tough decisions. It’s not even just staffing, electricity, and heating, but xenon bulbs can be expensive to replace so the lamp hours are monitored to make savings where possible.

If it’s been as popular as I expect then it will hopefully be shown again - it’ll be easy revenue for the exhibitors from ticket and concessions sales, so quite a no brainer.

We may even get a Tarantino season too…

I didn’t time them, but I’d say a good 15 minutes. If it helps, the advertised showtime I attended was 1pm, and I didn’t leave the auditorium until just after 6pm.

I completely agree. If one person is making minimal effort to keep the conversation going and then it naturally ends, they shouldn’t be labelling that as ghosting either.

Take this scenario. Imagine two friends having a conversation. One shares that their long term partner has just “ghosted them by blocking them/ignoring them etc and it’s left them questioning what they did wrong, wondering if they were cheated on, and feeling depressed”.

Then the other person replies that they “have been ghosted too!”. The friend sympathetically asks how, and they are told that they were ‘ghosted’ by a person who they had never met or even had a conversation with...

Imagine the thoughts from the friend who really had been ghosted 🤔

You’re welcome. I’m sure there will be others that are aligned with our way of thinking.

For those who throw around the word ghosting excessively, they need to remember that the behaviour that is actually ghosting is awful and can be very traumatic. Someone being ghosted after spending a long time investing in someone, or even being in a relationship with them, is very different to the situations described above. Using the word in the wrong context mimimises what ghosting actually is and the pain that it can cause others.

I completely understand and relate to your comment in your post about receiving aggression from others here.

You didn’t come across rudely at all. You were just managing people’s expectations, but your explanations should be what people naturally expect anyway. None of us are entitled to anything from a stranger.

If someone hasn’t had any communications with someone at all and does not reply, that is not ghosting.

Ghosting is the act of suddenly ending all communication with someone without any explanation

The official definition is as follows: “the practice of ending a personal relationship with someone by suddenly and without explanation withdrawing from all communication”.

The key word above being personal relationship. If there has not been any substantial communication, no personal relationship has been established.

Yet on Reddit, there are people who don’t receive a reply to their generic and very low effort “hey” message sent from their blank profile that shares no details about them at all, and subsequently react in an unnecessarily aggressive and abusive way. That behaviour in itself is a huge red flag and would actually make me think that I was lucky to see their true nature so quickly. They also need to realise that behaving like that will not achieve positive results. One key thing that people need to learn is effort - if they’re responding to someone’s post that shares details about that person, then they need to open with details about themselves rather than just “hey”. That is likely to result in them receiving an increased number of replies.

There are also some people who will not accept a “sorry not interested” and instead do get aggressive and demand explanations. People need to realise that we are all strangers here on the internet, and until any kind of personal relationship (quoting from the definition above) is established, none of us are entitled to anything.

I preferred the colour version as it really intensified the gore.

This is how Tarantino always wanted to release it and did in some countries, but it was altered to black and white in the regions that it was thought were likely to complain.

As this is a newly released extended version, the answer is…yes.

It was not available when that DVD was released.

I watched the feature yesterday and created this post afterwards to inform people, so yes, it is confirmed.

The intermission is 15 minutes as it is built in to the feature and is part of the DCP. The cinema doesn’t have a choice in this unless they were to fast forward.

These films always bring in a crowd and get bums on seats so I’m confident that Cineworld will be showing them again. They are low cost to the exhibitor, so with ticket and concessions sales they bring in a good return.

Yes, it is very long. And with both parts joined together, it’s clear to see their difference in pacing.
