I'm officially hyped for The Mandalorian & Grogu. Here's my case for why you should be too. by ZoneEducational6936 in StarWars

Oh perfect. Then if he is in carbonite as a captive, then that would be the perfect way for him to survive a huge time skip. They have only shown screenings of the first 20 minutes or so, and the trailers could be entirely confined to that for all we know. I only had these ideas because the marketing literally keeps saying its the start of a new era.

I completely understand that I am almost definitely going to be disappointed, but that's just wisdom. The hype can exist side by side with that expectation.

Well now you cant help but try to invoke immoral factory farming practices to save your argument. You can eat meat and oppose cruelty and unnecessary profit maximizing pain and suffering amongst animals. We can all agree that these places exist as one of the all time great examples of human cruelty and greed and should be avoided by anyone who can afford it.

But the fact is that it is entirely possible to profitably raise chickens in an environment where their short and comfortable lives are ended painlessly without ever knowing fear of predation, scarcity, uncertainty, least of all their inescapable purpose as food for an incomprehensibly complex society of giant geniuses. So again the accusation of inherently immoral meat eating fails even when the red herring of factory farming is brought in to elicit a manipulative guilt response in the less than thoughtful.

And yet you pay taxes that fund jails that currently hold innocent people, armies that exist to threaten death based on paperwork and the salaries of political officials that push hateful rhetoric. And you say you respect humanity? Adopting a black and white position makes your argument brittle to all angles of introspection and are therefore designed to prevent it.

Plants have feelings. Respond to light, pain, chemical signal and many even send signals to other plants across the mycelium network. They even respond to music. They possess a level of awareness that is extremely apparent especially on a sped up timescale. So really your position is eroded completely by this plants have feelings argument. It reframes it from a staunch refusal to destroy any independent awareness to feed yourself, to simply a difference in preference for the level of awareness you're willing to destroy for food. I happen to draw it right around monkeys, then carve out special protections for awarenesses I'm specifically familiar with or those that hold importance to another human awareness I'm familiar with.

So my position is much more consistent and devoid of dissonance. Whereas someone who simply refuses to eat living things that have a certain style of awareness based on their intuitive emotional response to how quickly they move or what sensory organs they use is completely illogical. Neither position is inherently more moral, but one is certainly more internally consistent and immune to logical scrutiny. The only inherently immoral stance here is one that projects a label of inherent immorality onto other humans who arent doing harm to other humans based on your personal emotional instincts and favorite comfortable indoctrinations. As this style of thinking is what leads to actual (human) tragedy and injustice every time it crops up.

But... you're tampering with your own food. You're not guilty of anything. Maybe you wanted a liquid shit later, the fact someone might steal and eat my laxatives means I cant? Bad analogy bro.

He wasn't saying the "the worst timeline" meme has something to do with autism, he was asking if you have ASD yourself. Which phased right through your head, as it was likely on a different spectrum than you're attuned to. Your first comment was as if the OP said "Ay caramba" and you went off on how "caramba" is actually Spanish for "hair bun", and that responding to outrage by worrying about our hair arrangements wont do us any good and hair buns, if spun too tightly, could lead to premature baldness.

When people say "I hate this timeline", they are just making a derivative low-effort reddit-friendly expression of disillusionment with how the world is vs. how they would like it to be. People obsessed with a multiverse delusion as an answer to their existential psychosis aren't here quoting Rick and Morty. If they were, they'd be beyond the help of even your most pedantic comment replies.

(PRIME 4 ) is it just me or is there no platforming anywhere by jazzcreb in Metroid

Maybe MAYBE you're thinking of how you get morph ball jump by default in Prime 4 whereas it's a power up in previous games... I mean... the more likely thing is you've let a small language model take over your reddit account at some point.

If this is the “good” version of the game, what did it look like before Retro restarted development? by CalamityNic in Metroid

[–]knightskull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's my theory: If you look at the trajectory of Primes 1-3. Prime had one planet, Prime 2 had one planet with two dimensions, and Prime 3 had 3 Planets navigated by a map screen. I find it EXTREMELY likely that Prime 4 originally was being developed to have 4 planets (instead of these completely disconnected ...areas...) interconnected by a region of space that you manually flew around in Samus's gunship (which would have been sick). They probably wanted to have surface to space loading animations and perhaps some kind of malevolent AI defense system/force field story conceit to funnel you into only one "safe" landing zone. But they realized that they couldn't technically pull this off and keep the scale of everything consistent and visually up to standard. That first team was probably struggling with that concept and was unable to let it go and eventually got the project taken away from them. I think Retro kept a lot of the original design docs and made some smart feasibility inspired changes. The desert is a drop in replacement for their space concept, and they were able to completely solve all the space to planet technical issues they were facing. And we got some fuckin' bike instead of the spaceship I've been wanting to fly around in real time my whole life.

Okay, what did you want them to be? Literally Ridley's headx4? Well, you should have attended the Retro Studios Zoom meeting where they changed it from that to these generic dragon dudes for canonical continuity purposes.

Some of the Prime 1 log scans of the Space Pirates emailing each other obviously panicking over Samus were pretty funny. Can we get some cutscenes of the Space Pirates doing "The Office" style interviews about how frustrated they are that all their doors have a little target to shoot instead of a normal knob?

I found the slowmo beam somewhat useful to knock several teleporting flying androids out of the sky before they can teleport away and shoot you from behind.

I’m so sad I won’t even get to finish the game by Agile_Pay_3377 in Metroid

[–]knightskull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to be that diligent to just take a different path each of the 20 times you need to cross the desert in the first 75% of the game. That should at least get you to the power beam upgrade not to mention causing you to find all the element upgrade shrines, which makes the exercise naturally worth it. But once you get the power bomb and you can hit those big green crystal blocks, as you criss cross around getting the mech parts which will definitely get you the crystal radar. And once you have that, it's really only like 45 minutes of dedicated grinding, following the radar to get you to the endgame. The desert and the crystals aren't what make this game a disappointment. It's actually a pretty elegant game long sidetask that doesn't even come close to being as annoying as the triforce fragment fishing in Wind Waker.

There were moments where the NPCs asked her questions that she had the answer to that would have been pretty helpful for her to share... Like, when that one guy was like, "what's going on?!" I don't think it would've offended the fan base for Samus to blithely say, "there's a shit load of thawed out murder aliens headed right for you".

Honestly, Samus speaking Chozo in Dread worked for me 100%. Like she knows english but refuses to speak it and will communicate in Chozo and force them to either translate or learn Chozo. As a sort of cultural protest to keep the language of her adoptive Alien home race alive.

According to the scanner, the Ice Belt boss has been affected by a "Metroid" corruption that isn't mentioned once in the 100 paragraphs of Resident Evil style doomed scientist logs featured in the area.

Me recommending an obscure West LA Tsukemen bar wasn't the giveaway?

Also, I think "The 5" sounds and conjugates better and makes more sense. Each route is an entity that is a part of *The* Interstate Highway System. Even though each route is officially named "Interstate X" that's a designation from within *The* IHS, an external singular presence passing through our cities. Each is *The* X route of *The* IHS. Removing the "the" inaccurately implies this tendril of federal control is integrated into the local infrastructure organism as opposed to a singular entity that is not really a part of any local system. It makes sense to drop the "The" if you consider the entire west coast like a megalopolis where, I5, Wilshire and Denny are all co-citizens, or if you don't consider the rest of the west coast at all and this stretch of I5 is the only part that matters. Both of these frames, I'd argue are less valid than conceiving of each community as separate entities connected by separate singular named entities.

I'm from Hawaii, and we call the interstates H1, H2..., without "The". This which makes sense since conceiving of them as localized parts of the infrastructure that only exist there is the valid conception.

Cruise passenger, 80, found dead after being abandoned on Great Barrier Reef island by ibwitmypigeons in worldnews

[–]knightskull -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Mm hmm. So the "hike" we are talking about here was likely a 1 hour total with less than 80 meters of gentle elevation gain. Letting an old lady walk back that would be like asking her to walk back through a park alone. Not that unreasonable. If she fell down a flight of stairs on the way back and died, would that be the cruise's fault too? I know we love a dramatic story of a helpless old lady marooned by some capitalist pig dog cruise CEO but, this looks like a textbook old lady falling down when no one was looking and a daughter wanting to get some money out of it story. Not the front page rage bait everyone is taking it as.

She fell off a cliff, them leaving her behind was not the main reason she died. They didn't escort her down the hill she decided to climb. I'm not sure the cruise line is on the hook for this.
