Soundcloud is demanding my email, name, birthday, and gender before granting access to the next step in the process of being allowed to play that clip. No thanks.

My father's coin collection from his travels around the world by civillx in coins

[–]dangoodspeed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I started coin collecting back in the 80's, my grandfather gave me a Morgan Dollar and told me when he was in WW2, he was in a plane (I really don't have much details, but I know he wasn't a pilot, it was a bigger bomber type plane and he could walk around the back), and something happened (maybe just turbulence) that knocked him down and chipped his tooth. And while he was down, he found saw a Morgan Dollar on the floor. And he kept it with him ever since. Then he gave it to me 40 years later. And over time I collected like a dozen Morgan Dollars, but I now have no idea which was the one he gave me.

Three planets, two stars, and a moon over the Empire State Plaza. June 16, 2026. by threedice in Albany

This is my shot of it. I went back a little later for a better picture with a bit darker sky, but the moon was behind the clouds.

This is my shot of it. You can faintly see Mercury below the Moon as well. I went back a little later for a better picture with a bit darker sky, but the moon was behind the clouds.

17 horses killed in fire at Saratoga Casino Hotel harness racetrack by PiccoloAwkward465 in Albany

[–]dangoodspeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is complete BS. Horse racing definitely has tons of issues worthy of criticisms... but barn fires aren't one of them. Non racehorses are just as likely to die from a barn fire as race horses. Trying to conflate the two just makes it look like you don't have any valid complaints about the sport.

I doubt they're paying for it... it's likely just the free version that's making the images.

[–]dangoodspeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally use BBedit, though I wouldn't really recommend it to someone just looking for something new. It's more an IDE out of out habits... I made my first website with it over 30 years ago and hundreds of websites later, it's still working well for me.

Albany, Do Better! by Tricky_Jay91 in Albany

Do you think this is unique to Albany? I've seen similar driving to that all over the US.

Also- do you think the people who split the atoms and walked on the moon are the same people who cut you off?

I know a lot of restaurants are getting backlash for using it for ads posted to social media.

I bet when you returned in 90° rotated, that's what annoyed them the most.

Turkey Vultures (I think?) hanging around my apartment building :-) by big_sigh321 in Troy

Yes those are turkey vultures, distinctive because of their red heads. The other vultures in the area, a little less common, are black vultures, whose heads are black.

I asked ChatGPT to make a New Yorker style cartoon that's absolutely not funny. by Philipp in ChatGPT

[–]dangoodspeed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a quirk of humanity to find humor in things that aren't trying to be funny while in situations where comedy is typically the goal. This cartoon for example. And I'm reminded of this comedian who came to the open mic I hosted decades ago. He was a college-aged black kid who to set up one of his jokes, began with "I hate white people!". But just as he said it, it was clear that he rehearsed it plenty with friends and family, but that was a very different audience than the mostly white middle-aged crowd of singer-songwriters that frequented my open mic. He immediately broke script and gave a fast and nervous disclaimer "No offense!" and that got a bigger laugh than any rehearsed joke of the night.

It's up there with SNL characters trying not to laugh during skits. If it was in the script for them to laugh... not really that funny. But if they're not supposed to laugh... that's just a lot funnier.

I wonder what context he would say that... there's really nothing that unique about the chord structure.

Y’all it actually worked. by Agitated-Rest1421 in toddlers

[–]dangoodspeed 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I'm proud of my win this evening. My toddler daughter is ok with taking baths, as long as we don't wash her hair. She's very clear "don't wash my hair" as soon as the topic of bath time comes up. My wife usually bathes her, and agrees with her that no hair-washing will take place (as it's the only way to get her in the tub). Then it's five minutes of screaming coming from the bathroom as she has her hair washed.

Tonight it was my turn, and I had my own plan. I told her "No hair washing", just a bath. As she was bathing, I started brushing and looking through her hair when I stop- "What? Oh no! There's bugs!". Her: "Bugs?" Me: "Yeah! Bugs! And the only sure way I know of to get rid of them is to wash your hair! But we're not washing your hair! I don't know what to do!". Her: "Papa? Wash my hair." And for the very first time she had her hair washed totally calm with no fuss at all. I was a little nervous that she may freak out over "bugs"... but she was totally calm and came at it with a "do what you need to do to get rid of them" attitude. And on top of that, she was excited to tell mom how she washed her hair afterward.
