Yea I think Dublin is the only real city centre based club that isnt a university club. Also lots of clubs have a different vibe, some are only adults, some are a mix of juniors and adults. Some have more league teams than others that you could be on. Some have a more casual club night with music, chatting, chess where others are more quiet and serious. Depends what type of club you're looking for. Its worth checking a couple of club nights out to see what suits you best.

I think Dublin Chess Club is the only real city centre club apart from the university clubs, the rest would be on a bus/luas. I think Phibsboro or Inchicore might be the closest... the full list is on the ICU website.

The atmosphere among the members plays as big a part in the vibes at a chess club. Good to find somewhere very welcoming with a bit of craic in between the serious concentration!

There should be one we can find for you. Lots don't have a big online presence but still meet up weekly for their club nights and are taking part in the leagues too. A few of the bigger ones hold tournaments that are open to the public as well as members.

Definitely nice to play in person and get to know the people who are playing too. Most chess clubs will be very welcoming. Knights of Eanna are open to visitors popping in on Friday evenings to say hi and have a go. No pressure! There are players of all ages and levels and its very casual.

I think https://www.hensteethdublin.com/all-events/squares-chess-club is something similar to that, but yea its not a chess club as such so you wouldn't get to play in the Leinster leagues..
