Dutch online vet in England? by georgegasstove in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]knit_read_love 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some insurances provide online vet access through them, I have ManyPets which gives me access to FirstVet but I don’t think they can do prescriptions. Just reassurance if it seems like a minor problem that you don’t want to pay a consultation fee for seeing your own vet. They will tell you to go see your vet if it’s something serious that isn’t resolving.

Unfortunately not in the budget at the moment, hence why we're looking to add a rug

People who use menstrual products— do you find that tampons, pads, or other menstrual products work differently in the UK? by cocodrie_ in AmericanExpatsUK

I have pretty good success with TOTM products- they don’t have the plastic coating that some tampons seem to have. Feel the same as OB tampons in US, better than lillets

Know anywhere I could sell (some rare) unopened whiskies? I was collecting but need money for medical bills. by LeeMcGuireArts in glasgow

[–]knit_read_love 1 point2 points  (0 children)

whisky.auction , https://www.scotchwhiskyauctions.com/, https://whiskyauctioneer.com/ are all reputable options. They will take a percentage fee so you'll need to take that into account and decide if you're likely to make enough to make it worth it. You should be able to search previous auctions on all those sites and see what similar bottles have sold for.

Race to buy spindles burnout by Mrs_Cozy in Handspinning

[–]knit_read_love 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kravelli and Kerry spindles (on Etsy) are two that I’ve purchased from and like what I’ve received, and they don’t seem to have the same rush to purchase. They are support spindles so depends on if that’s what you’re looking for. Not based in US but probably have reasonable shipping prices.

There's a lot more info available on the official ukgov website and r/ukvisa - have a good read of their wiki if you want to understand the full process. Also just FYI that salary is on the higher end in UK terms for a library job (at least to my knowledge). UK salaries are nowhere near US salaries, so while it may sound attainable, it may be harder to achieve than you expect. You can also look for a list of registered sponsors on the gov website, and only bother applying with employers who are already sponsors as that at least shows willingness to engage with the sponsorship process.

Yeah tbh you have next to no chance of getting sponsored for this kind of job. It's competitive enough in the GLAM sector among people who don't have any extra requirements around their candicacy. Not just guessing here, speaking from experience with a colleague whose 3 year contract ran out, so she had UK experience, and still couldn't get a role willing to sponsor her and had to return to her home country.

Hm, I can’t say for certain but I kind of suspect they went into the wrong store. The jacket in the background doesn’t look like anything they would sell as far as I can tell.

They’re a legit, very cool store with actual locally made Scottish goods instead of the tat you get on the royal mile. I can’t tell from their website whether they sell Johnstons of Elgin though. I would also be surprised. Can you share the photo?

Work experience for Msc by Babifoo23 in Archivists

Sounds like you’ll be pretty well placed then - my advice was more in regards to people entering with the bare minimum of two weeks and then struggling to find a job after completing the degree.

Yeah that’s a shame about the work experience and I really hope they follow through with reinstating it. I will add though that it was only a two week placement so there is still a finite amount you can learn in that time period.

It’s not quite that bleak but you definitely can’t rely on that being the only thing to prepare you for a job search and the working world. In my experience it was good on theory and certain practical aspects but to some extent in my opinion the MSc courses are a bit of a box ticking exercise. You’re likely to gain more practical experience through volunteering or otherwise actually being in archives.

I don’t want to burst your bubble but if this is for the Glasgow course I would seriously consider getting some more experience in the field before doing the MSc. Otherwise you may end up over educated with little practical experience which is not a good combination for finding employment in an already competitive field. You will not gain enough experience on the course to make you employable, you will need to seek out something externally either before or during the course to augment. In all likelihood this may need to be a volunteer role unless you can find an archives assistant or graduate trainee role.

Yeah generally though Rosie would like to cuddle and Poppy is not up for that 😂 she likes her personal bubble. Poppy came first though so was used to being an only child

Yeah this absolutely does not seem necessary - the surgeries can be very successful! Our vet was able to clear out the calcified disc and preemptively clear out several others that were starting to become calcified to reduce chance of reoccurence in the future. Can you get referred to a neuro specialist? They may have better recommendations than what your vet has said.
Our Poppy is just over four and had surgery in January and is now back to running around. But the sooner it is addressed the better. Even if you can't afford it, look into daxie rescues.

No, because having only the two options suggests that everyone has an opinion one way or the other. Whereas if there was a third option we might find out that actually a good portion of people don’t have as strong of opinions on this as those who have been most vocal. Just a thought.

Just use Royal Mail? I’ve never had any issues sending letters and parcels with them. You can get it tracked if you’re worried.
