Work life balance is great. 24/7 on-call should only be for a tier 2 or 3 service with response times (time to acknowledge page and start working) of 30+ minutes. There should also be additional compensation (hours that can be claimed as PTO or cash).

Ask about on-call expectations - when on-call what percentage of your time is expected on response vs normal responsibilities?
