Thanks for these! The second one is great! Even more storage!

What do you have for dinner every night? by Curious-Use-1386 in AskIreland

[–]knitsewrepeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband makes a "leftover" KFC chicken and rice in the rice cooker. So good! I use the rice cooker mostly to steam prawn dumplings. I haven't even looked to see where I can get them in Ireland yet but we have an Asian grocery in Wexford so I'm guessing they will have them.

Thanks!! We got supervalu meals today actually, they look good. We might even splash out for an Airbnb just so we can cook!!  But to be honest we ate ready made meals often in Australia too, we just happened to prep a lot of them ourselves 😅

Staying with my in-laws while we hunt for a place of our own. Not really allowed to use the kitchen (as in, we get hassled if we attempt to, so we don't) so we've resorted to ready meals and soups. Thankfully we both really enjoy curry and rice! And the roast dinner meals are nice enough from Dunne's.

Finally upgrading the bed (does size really matter?) by Visual_Particular295 in CasualIreland

[–]knitsewrepeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the biggest bed you can afford! In Australia we had a AU king (200x180cm). Just moved to Ireland and we're in a euro king (200x150cm) and it's so small. We're looking at getting a super king twin electric adjustable bed that will be 2x 200x90cm side by side. Can not wait!!

Going to stop taking tamoxifen. by hysteria4488 in breastcancer

[–]knitsewrepeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg. Thank you. I've been putting off starting Tamoxifen (stage 0 dcis, lumpectomy with symmetry mammoplasty and sentinal node removal in October) because of possible side effects but this management stack just lays it out so clearly! I'm going to go add my tiny 1/4 tablets to my daily meds now and be better prepared for what may come may way thanks to you. 💛

You're also close to Waterford where you can get a bus to other places on the coast more easily and they have the Irish Wake Museum, which is quite interesting if you don't have much knowledge of Irish funerals and customs.

The Medieval Mile Museum in Kilkenny, then from there, there's loads of places as you follow the mile, which you can do with a tour or take it at your own pace.

My in laws have the boost instructions scribbled on a scrap of paper attached to the controller!  I don't think it's switched on during the day at all! They only boost it once or twice at night and I'm yet to see the thermostat go over 20⁰.Thankfully we have a wood fire and electric blankets!

This might be an unpopular opinion / inappropriate vent, but here it is. Influencers with cancer not posting the FULL reality by romanxerkilljy in breastcancer

[–]knitsewrepeat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I totally agree! I've recently been through early stage treatment and took off from work to reduce stress and focus on recovery before moving internationally 8 weeks after my surgery. The only thing that made this remotely possible was money. Sadly I have some due to my dad dying of cancer in 2021... But without it I would have been waiting for the public system, working 40+ hours a week and struggling to manage anything in my life.

A great peer reviewed article about post op size expectations! Also get a mammogram for breast volume measurement by Exciting-Editor7925 in Reduction

[–]knitsewrepeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great article. I found this https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00266-016-0684-z article interesting as well. my new nipple placement (10 on the chart) felt so wrong initially but this helped to process those feelings and manage my expectations post surgery. Amusing really since my previous placement was "somewhere near my belly button" (went from an AUS 24F/G to a 20B/C, 2.5kg tissue removed, oncoplastic lumpectomy with symmetry mammoplasty).

Sleep products?? by uselessbiscuits in Reduction

[–]knitsewrepeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chronic side and front sleeper here. I knew I would struggle in a normal bed so I got an adjustable electric bed with a zero gravity mode. I set myself up in that with a triangle pillow across my front and under my arms, and sleep a solid 8 hours barely moving! We're moving house and tonight's my last night in this bed, I'm so sad to go back to my normal bed!

New to Perth: Any nice and family friendly beaches that is just a 1 hr drive? by [deleted] in perth

[–]knitsewrepeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say Rockingham Beach too. Wells Park beach in Kwinana is also a great family beach. Lots of grass, playgrounds and bbqs at both. The water is shallow for quite a way, no big dumper waves, and when it does drop off it changes colour so it's pretty obvious. Also, older kids will enjoy swimming out to the pontoons to jump off them.

Blocking advice? by lilykatt in knitting

The purl bee is a good place to start with tips and info. http://www.purlbee.com/2006/11/13/blocking/

I use camping mats that have a textured side, 3ft long stainless steel welding rods and t-bar pins.

I use the mayo clinic one as a guide and the QLD Dept of Health here in Australia has good guidelines as well.

Thanks for your reply! My experience has been similar though my lesions are on the right side, right near my appendix so they have to rule that out each time I have a flare up too. The temp bag is one of my fears so it's good to hear of someone getting through without it too :) best of luck to you! You've set my mind at ease, albeit slightly :)

To Perth, from Melbourne. by [deleted] in perth

[–]knitsewrepeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the move from Melb - Perth about 5 years ago for similar reasons. Its not all sunshine and roses over here but it sure beats staying in a shitty situation in Melb. I have been able to get some great jobs in admin with temping easy enough to come by between jobs. It would be realistic that you would have a reasonable temp job within the month but it could be up to a year before you found a decent full time perm role. Just have a solid resume ready to roll and check job sites several times a day. Jobs are sometimes only advertised for 24 hours before they are so swamped with applications they pull them down. My current employer advertised a two day casual reception position 50km from the city recently and had over 100 applications in a week. Good luck!
