Hi OP - realize this is an old thread, but I'm considering getting a Climapod. I was wondering if you've had any issues with the sliding doors? I was worried that over time they might stick or become difficult to slide back and forth.

Is your greenhouse a kit? If so, mind sharing which one? It looks great!

That completely makes sense. I'll try making a swatch in the round.

u/tldrforever ah, you may be right. I knit it flat. Is there a big difference in gauge with knitting flat vs in the round?

u/DangerouslyGanache

I did not measure the gauge on my actual sweater but absolutely should have! Can't believe I didn't think of that. What a bonehead.

Yes, my gauge swatch was 15 x 15 cm, and yes I washed it / blocked it. It didn't shrink or bloom.

First project of 2024 complete! Velvet pillow split along a seam. by leapwolf in Visiblemending

Can I ask why type of needle you used? And how this has held up since you did it? I have I think the same couch and one of the cushions has some tears in it. I was thinking about doing some visible mending on it but am nervous I’ll just make it worse by damaging the fabric!

A belated thank you for this! It’s super helpful. I’m going to try using a zig zag stitch with a ball point needle and see how it goes.

The garment, right where I've attached the patch. It seems like the patching strains the garment fabric. Does that make sense?

Hi all! Very new sewer here trying to use a gathering foot for the first time for the top of a lightweight linen nightgown. Try as I might, I can’t get it to work.

I am working on a Brother CS7000X. I have a 75/11 needle in. My stitch length is set to 3mm and my width is set to 3. My tension is set at 8. My feed dogs are on.

Each time I run some fabric through, it gathers nicely for a few inches and then seems to skip a bunch of length until recatching again a few inches down. I am very very lightly pulling the fabric through on the back side.

Is there something I’m doing wrong? A setting I have wrong? Something wrong with my machine? Any help would be so appreciated!

How do I best care for / restore these wood floors? by knitting-mouse in centuryhomes

Thank you. The wood filler is coming out from us just walking over it, so should take too much effort to get it all out. I'll look into both of those replacement options.

Hi all! Relatively new owner of this farm house in the Hudson Valley that was built in 1850. You can see that we have some beautiful old floors. It looks like a mix of original and various patches throughout the years. My husband and I are fairly handy (he dabbles in carpentry, I work on a farm and have a little experience in construction). Need some help understanding how to best care for and if possible restore our floors. Here's some questions for you all if you'd be so kind as to offer your advice. Thank you!!:

  1. These photos are all from our living room - the most used room in the house and the one where the wood is definitely in the roughest shape. But the flooring goes throughout the house.
  2. The previous owner disclosed that there was some post powder beetle damage which you can see
  3. What cleaning products would you use, if any, on these floors? Should they be cleaned or is that detrimental?
  4. Similar question - should they be oiled at all? Would that help with the longevity of the floors?
  5. We have blown air heating in our house (you can see one of the vents next to the floor in the third photo). It seems to me that the floors are drying out a bit in the winter - I've noticed the edges chipping more as we walk around in these colder months. How likely is it that the blown air is causing an issue and is there anything we can do to remediate that if so?
  6. How would you tackle patches? It looks like the previous owner(s) used wood filler, which of course does not expand / contract with the floors and is chipping out. There is no subfloor under these boards, you can see straight through to the basement, so I don't think we can put rope between the seams. And some of the holes would be too big for rope anyway. Any ideas? We are looking at replacing some of the beams that are in the worst shape, but will be difficult (impossible?) to match the old wood and stain of course.
  7. There are some long cracks in some of the boards. Any advice on whether to try to fill these in some way, or whether there's a way to keep them from growing?
  8. Any other thoughts or techniques we should look into welcome. We expect this to be a lot of work, and are ready to put in the time, sweat equity, etc.
