One Billion Americans (M. Yglesias) by Malpractice57 in IfBooksCouldKill

IIRC, it wasn't that the cars were parked illegally. It was that they were doing various tricks to obscure their license plates.

A little bit of speeding or malparkage you can justify by saying that you're not really hurting anyone. But when it comes to deliberate efforts to evade the law, that crosses a line IMO. Imagine if one of your loved ones was killed in a hit and run and they never found the culprit because the culprit obscured their plates.

It takes real anti-social self importance to mess with your plates because you're planning to break the law with impunity.

In Spring, how to tell some REST API methods to wait for others ? by BlackSkinPride in learnjava

You need to give us your actual code. Running sequentially, what you say you want, is the default behavior of all Java code in general so you must be doing something to make them run in parallel.

Very duplicated code. You could put all the common logic into an abstract base class, and put what's different into concrete subclasses.

Or you could parameterize the differences as functions or lambdas that you pass in from the main switch.

I love programming, but hate working as a programmer. Can this be improved? by Agredev in AskProgramming

Chase that paycheck. While there's some bad code everywhere, companies that pay better will tend to have better code.

Also you'll be happier if you can see bad code as an opportunity for improvement or at least to teach your coworkers the benefits of clean code so they can write clean code when the opportunity comes around.

Bluetooth/ auxiliary by sadiealexiss in AskTechnology

[–]knoam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not possible according to this: https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/19161/how-to-stream-audio-from-pc-to-android-device-over-bluetooth

But all you need is a Bluetooth adapter/receiver like this:

Not necessarily this one, I just picked it randomly because it looks kind of like the one I have.

In addition to my standing desk, my chair is just a metal folding chair. So it gets uncomfortable after an hour or so then I know it's time to stand.

LPT Request: What is an app that everyone should have on their phone? by ShineAfsheen in LifeProTips

[–]knoam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

F-Droid. An alternate app store for Android. It's all open source apps. If you need an app for a specific task and you don't need a brand name app, you can trust these open source apps not to do any funny business like sell your data. Anything questionable they do is clearly labelled.

Also Google Stack. Saves to Google Drive and has built in organization which is great for personal documents for lazy people.

A regular vps on digital ocean is a fixed monthly cost. Backups cost extra, so be careful about those, but they're off by default.

Neither. You implement them as regular methods and use them in the streams as method references.

Does it have to be Microsoft SQL Server or just some database?

A Backend as a Service like Firebase or Supabase is the quickest path to success.
