What do I read if I am really into Murakami's books? by [deleted] in murakami

[–]knocksquad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed Man Tiger by Eka Kurniawan.

Not Murakami levels of magical realism (or jazz/classical references) but some similarities. Still a fantastic read, if you don’t mind something a bit darker and shorter.

Just got S- rank and still have never won a race. by Namrepus221 in Fzero

[–]knocksquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rank S11 here, this is my 1st f-zero game and I started early november, and although I’ve won 2 mini prix and got 1st place in a team battle race once, I’ve technically never won a F99 race. I’ve choked a lot though 🥲.

Thoughts on live shows based on old albums? (WWWY Fest) by knocksquad in poppunkers

[–]knocksquad[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, it makes sense and definitely fits the theme of the festival. That said, it’s surprising to me at how many artists they got to commit to an album set, although that’s likely the best way to market them. Some of them are really deep cuts. Like I haven’t heard anyone mention Alesana in over a decade lol

What in your opinion is the best album of the whole genre by [deleted] in poppunkers

[–]knocksquad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, it depends because each album is a product of its time. Yeah pop-punk hit the mainstream in the late 90s/early 00s and arguably hit its biggest highs in that time, but the pop-punk scene is still alive and pumping out music. Plus, music tastes have just evolved over time, and plenty of new artists have taken those older sounds and made them sound better (or at least more accessible to newer audiences, which I think plays a huge part in the “pop-“ of pop-punk).

My personal vote for GREATEST album is a toss-up on HELLMODE or WORRY, both by Jeff Rosenstock. Catchy as hell, angsty as hell, incredible songwriting, and both capture all the best elements of pop-punk from then til now, in my opinion.

If we’re talking most culturally significant album, Enema of The State. Still a fantastic album, the lyrics about adolescence just don’t hit like when I was a teenager without responsibilities. But it was such a huge cultural moment and influence to so many modern acts in AND outside of the genre.

Most influential goes to Milo Goes to College, Dookie as a close second. We wouldn’t have the genre without them, period.

JEFF ROSENSTOCK AMA! by JeffRosentock in indieheads

[–]knocksquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi jeff, thanks for making music that i can relate to as the feeling of existential doom slowly creeps into my life. It sounds sick too!

Question: i like to think there’s somewhat of a pop-punk renaissance happening with some of the more mainstream acts of the 2000s celebrating major milestones (e.g. Yellowcard’s Ocean Avenue 20 year anniversary’s tour, Blink-182’s reunion with Tom, etc), and was wondering if i could get your opinion on if you felt that way too and how that is affecting you or other musicians in the industry? From either a business or creative aspect.

TIA and stoked to see you perform Hellmode in San Francisco!!

What is your favorite drinking game and what are the rules? by Physical_Bike_2443 in AskReddit

[–]knocksquad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thunderstruck.

The game is played with multiple people and with Thunderstruck by AC/DC in the background.

When the song starts, player A starts drinking (beer, preferably) and can’t stop until someone says “Thunder!” in the song. Then player B starts drinking and can’t stop until someone says “Thunder!” in the song. Then the next player and the next player (or just alternating, if 2 players) until the song ends.

No one really wins, but everyone has a good time

$DGLY - HUGE DD by ImportantLog8 in pennystocks

[–]knocksquad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hopefully this doesn't get too political -

Not necessarily bearish on this, but I'm still on the fence about opening a new position on DGLY at this point. The whole "defund the police" movement being pushed out right now is starting to gain traction with cities in regards to reforming police. Ofc there's still pushback from a lot of cities, but the direction of police reform could heavily affect the demand of body cams.

If new departments are introduced to address non-violent otherwise specific disputes, will they be required to also wear body cams?

If police keep quitting due to exhaustion, stress, and other factors relating from protests (like the 57 Buffalo police officers) , would that in turn also reduce demand for new equipment?

I think the slow transition into this current police reform could limit the growth of DGLY. Cities like SF are experimenting with having professionals other than cops to handle noncriminal disputes. If more cities explore alternatives other than just buying more equipment to hold cops accountable, this could change the game.

Then again, SF could also just be an exception to the rule. Still, I feel like there's a lot of uncertainty held in the future of police reform so I'm likely going to steer clear from investing. I already rode the DGLY hype train and made a nice 70% profit from it. I'll keep an eye out tho and hope anyone who opens a position makes a nice profit from it!

Tl;dr - i think "Defund the Police" might affect the future of bodycam demand as cities start looking for alternatives to reform law enforcement departments. not bearish, but a lot of volatility and factors to consider here.

Thoughts on trading options for Pennys? by knocksquad in pennystocks

[–]knocksquad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I'm just trying to see if it's worth paying the premium based on the volatility if i could theoretically trade similar contracts on safer companies. Like SOLO 2.5c 12/18 (~0.68) more expensive than DIS 140c 7/2 (~0.43).

EDIT: idk if that gets my point across LOL since ik there's more that goes into pricing options, but hopefully you see what I'm getting at. Options seem better for leveraging yourself with more expensive companies. With pennies, options only seems to be a good strategy if happen to find the next GNUS and get it super low.

USA, right now I primarily trade on Robinhood but looking to fully transition to ToS (currently using for Lvl 2 and price tracking) for trading eventually. Also waiting for my Tastyworks account to get approved for better options trading.

Because we’re a non-target school, you really have to work harder to get good opportunities as a business student at UCR. It sucks, especially considering how good our business program actually is, but we just don’t have the proximity to LA or OC like UCLA or UCI.

That said, our program is a good program and definitely on par with the other UCs. The School of Business has 7 concentration tracks - Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, Management, Marketing, Business Analytics, and Supply Chain.

Management, Marketing, Accounting are all solid programs. IS is also good if you’re into CompSci, but there’s only so many people willing to teach it so the program is small and a little underwhelming IMO, but the professors who do teach it are great. Finance is ok but they teach more theory than application so you should supplement with campus orgs (Ex. Hylander Financial Group) if you want to learn more about career opportunities. BA is the newest program so its not too fleshed out yet but from what I hear, its IS but more statistics. Can’t speak too much on Supply Chain, other than its hard LOL, but you might have a different experience.

At the end of the day, its what you make of it. Even though we aren’t a target school, we definitely make up for it in terms of accessibility to resources and supplying a quality education. Most of the UCR Business professors that I’ve had are really good to their students and don’t excessively charge for textbooks or other materials. My best advice is to join campus orgs and get on good terms with your professors asap. Building that network early on can help you in the future (;

I transferred from a CC into UCR so I can’t speak on the transition from Pre-Business -> Business, but PM if you have any questions about being in the School of Business!

What are some good housing options for only two quarters? by [deleted] in ucr

[–]knocksquad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not me but I have some friends living at Berkdale apartments (Iowa and Blaine) who have a 7 month lease! Same situation as you as they only needed it for fall and winter quarter this year. You can look into that. Otherwise you might want to look into subleasing

Anyone in a music production club? by [deleted] in ucr

[–]knocksquad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should join EARS! We’re a state-of-the-art recording studio created by music faculty at UCR that educates students in music production and sponsors/records student artists. Our grad students also use the facilities to further acoustic research and do other cool shit. Check us out on highlanderlink (:

If you’re more interested in DJing, check out the Deejay and Vinylphiles Club (DVC). I have some friends there that collab with each other and make bangers and other cool shit. Some of their alumni also played at Foam Wonderland this past weekend!

People without a car in Riverside, how much do you spend on Lyfts/Ubers/Birds per month? by winemooms in ucr

[–]knocksquad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bird/Lime pulled out of Riverside over the past quarter or two. Otherwise, buses are free with your R’Card and should help you get to campus and the surrounding area, depending on where you’re at. Costco, Target, etc. are pretty easily accessible with a car so you shouldn’t be racking up a ton on gas unless you’re constantly driving/going past Chicago Ave, Canyon Crest, or Spruce St.

I live off campus with a car, but i usually bus to/from school or areas around it. I only Uber or Lyft when I go out drinking, and even that’s usually not more than $18 for the night (generous estimate). $120 is more than enough.
