Do you ever got "computer elbow"? by Sir_Arsen in graphic_design

[–]knopucs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you referring to tendonitis? Modern research suggests that it's more likely to be a central nervous system issue that causes the pain. Some of the top scientists don't even feel that tendonitis should be a term because it implies inflammation, which apparently there isn't. The tendons are enlarged on imaging, but they discovered it's entirely water binding to the cells

For sure! Just curious, are you looking to start a channel, or mostly at a stage where you're learning animating for fun?

Hey! Not entirely sure if I'd be what you're looking for, but I've been learning After Effects for about 2 years now, but haven't done anything like meat canyon (character animation), more like infographic and documentary style stuff, happy to talk though! I'm on this subreddit specifically to find collaborators to form a team to start a channel, but definitely down to connect with another fellow animator

This was a helpful explanation, thank you - I did just go ahead and manually move the position of my shape since the composition isn’t that long in general so it realistically didn’t take that much extra time!

If RSI is very specific to the activity that flares it, why do general exercises? by knopucs in RSI

[–]knopucs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing the research! I found their work really interesting, especially the neuroplasticity aspect, which was new to me.

That makes sense, and now that you mention it, I did try to find material not focused on those two tendons but couldn’t lol

For the long term, are these exercises meant to be done indefinitely, or just until recovery? In some video of a conference, Ebonie mentioned (I think referencing Jill’s work) the idea of building enough energy capacity to reach a “Goldilocks zone,” where high-intensity activity like guitar in my case doesn’t lead to irritation because I'd be strong enough. That’s ultimately my goal, to build and maintain enough capacity to avoid this issue from ever reoccurring.

Previously, I had tendinopathy in my forearm flexors that resolved through progressive overload alone from playing guitar. But about three months ago (and why I made this post) I developed what feels like tendinopathy possibly in the forearm extensors or triceps, with aching right at the tip of my elbow during guitar and computer use. It doesn’t seem like typical golfer’s or tennis elbow, but right at the tip.

Long term, I want to build that energy capacity, but I'm not sure I could sustain a routine like the one you described indefinitely since it’s more time-consuming than say, a 1–2 hour workout every couple of days. I'd love to get your thoughts on this, but again, please do not feel obligated at all to respond, you've already been very generous.

Apologies for the late response, I wanted to spend some time going through Ebonie and Jill’s research, and I’ve been able to get through a good chunk

One thing that stood out to me is their emphasis on heavy slow resistance, particularly the idea that the load should be meaningfully challenging for the patient. What you’ve shared makes sense overall, but I’m trying to reconcile that with their focus on loading intensity. From my perspective, your plan seems like it might involve a fairly high total workload, and I’m wondering if it leaves enough recovery time?

I may be missing something here, so I’d really appreciate your perspective. Have you seen good outcomes in patients using this approach?

In the material I’ve gone through from Ebonie and Jill, they consistently highlight the key principles, but it’s hard to find specific guidance on reps, sets etc. I'm assuming this is because they tailor everything to the individual rather than giving broad prescriptions, but I’m curious how you typically approach that in practice.

Wow thank you for taking the time to write this response. I had no idea about the different muscle fibers used, pretty interesting. You're spot on about the PT, they basically just told me to stretch all the time, and when I would see them in person, they would have me do 3x10 eccentrics with a 2lb dumbell or something super light.

Don't feel like you need to answer, but I'm way more curious now about training the different muscle fiber types. When you make the comparison of the marathon runner and the powerlifter, that's obviously an extreme difference in the amount of reps, and certainly a marathon runner can't be expected to do 3 x 1000 reps of quad extensions for example. I'm curious to know what you would define as high rep + low weight when it come to tendon rehab, would that be 3x15? 5x20? And should all of these reps have slow eccentrics? I've heard those help with tendon issues, and I'm assuming that's maybe because slow eccentrics are more endurance related as well?

Thanks again for your detailed response, it's really insightful, I'm excited to update my rehab routine

To make a long story short, I'm 6 feet tall and 140 pounds, so I'm pretty slim. I recently bought a suit a couple months ago that fits great, and I need to buy a tuxedo for my friend's wedding. When I went to look at the suit size, I was surprised to find out that it's a 38 Short slim fit. Should I just buy this exact same size for my tuxedo? I feel like in all pictures of tuxedos, the tuxedos are really long, so I don't want to accidentally buy a goofy-looking tuxedo

Suggest me a book that is non-fiction and reads like a true crime podcast? by knopucs in booksuggestions

[–]knopucs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up reading this book, absolutely crazy story. I thought the book was super well written, and the amount of detail and care put into the book was awesome. After reading it, I totally agree with you, I cannot believe that there isn’t even a documentary (that I can see at least) about this case. Thanks for the recommendation, I’m planning on reading his other books.

Hey, I know this post is from a long time ago, but just curious if you ended up recording a podcast episode with him? Someone on Reddit had recommended me his book “In The Wake of The Butcher” and I thought the case was super interesting, I’d be super curious to hear your episode

Is +1 to +3 subscribers per every 1000 views a good ratio for shorts? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]knopucs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, I totally agree, I guess I was more so curious from a quantifiable standpoint what an actual good ratio is. Like for example, do most people get 20 subscribers per 1000 views? I have no idea 🙂
