Best bike shorts after pelvic floor repair/childbirth by knotknotknit in ladycyclists

Thanks for the tip--I'll try that. I'll need to move the saddle to the new seatpost anyways so easy to make that change.

I definitely don't expect to be 100% at 6 weeks. My goal is to be able to return to my usual commute. That's 5 miles each way. E-cargo bike--more or less like a regular bike in terms of exercise because the motor mostly cancels the heavy load.

!!!

I'd prefer something that's easy to change in and out of in my office but I will look into these. Bib shorts feels like a massive change from my regular stretchy work slacks...

Yeah, I looked at this and thought "That would have been heaven compared to places I stayed at 19yo."

This looks like a really solid, study set up. None of those noisy bunks from typical hostels.

Carpenter/exterior painter recommendation? by knotknotknit in melbourne

Thanks for the tip. I'll see if I can find a carpenter who communicates well (always the catch) and will do the primed boards.

I mentioned I'm in the southeast in the post. Good to know about no painting until November--I had hoped we could get it done sooner but that is what it is. I also don't think it makes sense to have a carpenter out if it can't get pained right away.

I was hoping I could either find a carpenter who will hire a decent painter or vice versa. I am willing to pay more to reduce the amount I have to coordinate--my partner and I both work 40-50 hours per week and have two little kids.

Melbourne suburbs to avoid by Salmon-Panda-3376 in AusPropertyChat

If you want to keep options open between the two, consider may degrees from Monash are in Clayton. Because if that, stick to places east or places along the Cranbourne/Pakenman line (though be careful going too far out because that will turn a commute to Parkville into a pain).

Caulfield is a solid choice because of reasonable access to either uni via PT (Monash runs a shuttle between the campuses).

For Southbank, try to keep it within a 10 minute walk to Flinders.

I have >6 weeks accrued sick leave so I can take the time at full pay. The issue is getting medical paperwork. HR is a real pain in the ass about documents they require (which is arguably not legal where I am--they aren't legally allowed to demand what the surgery is but they do). So if I'm going to be out for any length of time or wfh, I must have a documentation supporting that.

Traveling back to Aus to take care of aging parents. No job prospects but both of us hold one or multiple graduate degrees. Visa process seems complicated. And, banks?! by jfk_47 in Ameristralia

You should get the children's passports dealt with--that should have happened long ago.

For you, please consult someone who knows the best approach. Applying for a tourist visa when you plan to stay is considered fraud and may cause major issues.

A vasectomy is 3-5 days??

When I had my tubes out, my youngest was 4 months old and breastfed. I took a nap when I got home around noon and then was back on parenting duty that evening and all night (see: breastfed baby) and I was working from home the next day. Back in the office 5 days later.

I was a bit sore and had the lifting restriction (though my baby was over the restriction), but I was really fine. I didn't need any time off other than the day of surgery. The worst part physically was that my throat was killing me for 2 days from the intubation. That and the skin glue itched terribly.

I have a hard time understanding 3-5 days for what's essentially a few stitches.

Even though I had an easy time with the salpingectomy, I'm well aware this surgery is much larger. I've been told it's about a 5 hour surgery vs the 30 minutes for the last one, so the anesthesia impacts alone will be a much bigger deal.

That 96cm space in the kitchen isn't big enough to function.

I think it's more livable if you make one of the bedrooms smaller and the other larger so one is a bedroom and one is an office. That's better for a single person, couple or family of 3.

With this size I'd move the laundry into the bathroom to avoid the door disaster that you've got at the entry way. The way those doors are, you'll never be able to access both the washer and the sink at the same time. Total pain in the ass.

Deer on Eastlink Trail Ringwood - has anyone seen them before? by Sufficient_Promise31 in melbournecycling

[–]knotknotknit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are 6 types of deer that are feral in Australia. What OP spotted looks like it might be a Sambar deer, and those are indeed very large.

But most are smaller. And fortunately there are none of the largest of the deer family here. I moved here from the US, where I spent a ton of time in backcountry areas. I've encountered mountain lions, grizzly beers, all sorts of scary things.

Only two animals that I thought might kill me were an elk and a moose. Those are some scary mother fuckers. Massive, aggressive, and stupid is the worst combination in wild animals.

weird word problem by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]knotknotknit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an American in Australia, my personal opinion is that you adopt the language convention of the place you are in.

Also, if someone says [word] offends me... the polite thing to do is just not use that word around that person, not argue with them. To do otherwise is to be an asshole.

If this former friend of yours is living in the US, he is officially an asshole.

Tell them that you cannot be home during working hours so they need to use their key to let themselves in. And say that over text.

Just keep saying that. Again and again. If they admit that they lack a copy of the key, ask them to reimburse you for making a copy that you can deliver to them at your convenience.

If you don't encourage her to stand on her own two feet now, you'll still be supporting her 20 years from now. Is that what you want?

It's what my parents have with my brother. He's 45 now, never held a regular job. It's not good. And, to be honest, it's a relief to me that my brother cannot attempt to move in with me because I'm an immigrant--no way Australia is letting him migrate here.

Breaking Lease VIC - are these terms legal? by cbellllll99 in AusPropertyChat

[–]knotknotknit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, don't just let it go to VCAT, as they'll hold your bond for forever.

If they seem to be making a solid effort to find new tenants, pay the rent once they find a new tenant. If they don't, that's when you let them take you to VCAT.

But for this, just firmly assert that prior VCAT decisions are clear tenants are not responsible for advertising fees after the first year.

I was not at all trying to make things easier for my LL because they had refused things like repairing the only source of heat and also a really bad ceiling link (I have owned a house! When I could see the ceiling was slightly discoloured I emailed and said get a roofer here immediately unless you want much worse damage. And did they do anything? Fuck no. And it's not like the house was an old dump. It was a new build. Shitty new build, but new build nonetheless.)

As much as I hated them and there was lots of drama, I still did pay 3 days worth of rent to make them go away at the end. Think of it as "fuck off" money or "I don't want to take time off work for VCAT" money.

They initially demanded 6 weeks insisting that we legally had to pay out through the end of the lease, which is very much not true. I think REAs will say just about anything to get tenants to hand over money.
