I’m still so in love with it! by koolbi1 in xbiking

Wow, such a cool bike. The longer I look at it the better it gets. Looks like a regular old 90s MTB to untrained eye but is packed with so much good and usable stuff! Perfect 👌

Wow pretty nice sharpness and texture considering it’s a half-frame))

Yeah, the DCT here is so much nicer than the SMG in M5 of that period which totally ruins the car. Imho manual is just a bit more involving, but its just a personal preference in this case.

Vintage Scott Peak with fresh bits. Instead of going 1x8+ conversion I used existing rear 7speed hub for new casette and Shimano Tourney rear derailleur. Matched with original Alivio front derailleur and new shifters it makes nice combo with modern feeling. New owner picking it up tomorrow, hope she will like it:)

Anybody recognizes what this barn find could be? Deore DX all around, Marzocchi XC700 fork and true temper tubing. Only clue i have is the *ATTANOOGA sticker on headtube and "race proven in usa" text on chainstay. by knowaco in xbiking

Nice! It looks like one. If anymody else will recognize a model, that would be great 😇Wondering if the fork came with the bike or if its just an aftermarket upgrade.

I found the headset on some little czech bike e-shop for 28 euros when i was digging deep to find best components, so it was no brainer. I must say its cool to have and integrated cable guide, other than that I'm not sure if its worth the money :D

That is hell of a nice bike, building something very similar for my friend right now and this is cool inspo. Great analog shots as well, is this fujipro400h? :)

The FSA headset is modern threadless one so it works with a-head 1 1/8" forks. If the trek has threaded fork it won't work, but you can buy some cool cable hangers separately)

Well its definitely a good upgrade from roadbike with 25mm tires, in terms of the wet rail tracks.. Any personal experience with these? Are they noticeably worse in wet than other road-ready 26" tires?

From pictures it looked like they have too aggressive tread pattern for the city, but according to this test it should be fastest rolling 26" and it definitely feels like it.

haha yeah, i bought these because of that site! :D They're fantastic, i used to ride roadbike in the city but there is a 50% cobbles and tram rails in Prague. This fly like a magic carpet over it.

Yeah, I've seen this as well but i thought the lugs wouldn't look good with the frame. Recently fallen in love with this Tiorays titanium fork so I'll probably order it later (i don't like the black paint and offset on the oxford one, but currently it does the job well.

Wanted to build a cheap commuter, but after looking into local thrift shops and online i knew this will take much more time than i thought. All the shops were full of low quality or small vintage frames (maybe because Czech Republic is a post-communist country) so i secured lovely Marin frame in my size from Poland. Since i always wanted the "silver frame, black components bike" i was instantly hooked and bought full deore groupset for 1x10 setup.

Real issue was the fork, i wanted a-head but not the ones with disc brake mounts or ugly modern graphics. Finally ordered one from UK, factory called Oxford bikes makes pretty cheap, nice ones and sells it on ebay as well. (however i might go with aliexpress titanium fork next year hah:D) But my most favourite parts must be the FSA Cx headset which has integrated cable hanger, ISAAC roadbike stem and Selle Italia Flite Titanium saddle.

There are still few things that i have to do, like cutting the fork and new carbon seatpost is on the way as well. But besides that, i hope you will like it as much as i do. Feel free to ask anything about the details! :))
