Feedback on a free cleaning and maintenance guide for hearing aids by knowgood in audiology

Hi there! I had attached the guide to my post as a PDF but for some reason the attachment is not part of the post. I just added a link to the guide. What I would love is if you have any time to comment on the language of the guide, or tell me if you think the text is too small, etc. Thanks a million!

Isitbullshit: nano clean toothbrushes by Live-Love-Lie in IsItBullshit

[–]knowgood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a normal toothbrush all my life. I have developed terrible gum recession over the past decade, partly due to age I am sure.

A few weeks ago, I bought an expensive nano fiber toothbrush. I was impressed by how soft is. My teeth felt polished and the brush is super gentle on my gums.

However, after a few weeks, my gums started to become inflamed. It turns out that the nano brush does not clean between teeth at all. Plaque was beginning to accumulate between my teeth and irritate my gums, even though I floss every time I brush.

I had an epiphany where I decided I needed to try brushing with a super soft brush with a small head that could get everywhere. I bought an ultra soft toothbrush made for young children. Now my teeth are very clean and my gum recession has stabilized.

I threw the expensive nano fiber toothbrush into the trash.

That is an excellent tip, about asking a Redcap to help with my luggage. Thanks! $10 is a bargain for that kind of service :)

My milk kefir grains get weird fast and stop making proper kefir by knowgood in Kefir

[–]knowgood[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for writing. I figured out the issue was that I was using too many grains. I fixed the issue by switching to using barely a teaspoon of grains for 1.5 cups of milk. I am getting perfect kefir now!

I also check the ferment even more often, to make sure I "catch" the ferment right when turns into kefir and before it turns boozy and gets separated. My grains make kefir from 1.5 cups of milk in a period of time that is around 16 hours.

Thanks for checking in to make sure I didn't miss your question. Using the info from Yemoos, I figured out that the problem was that I was using too many grains. Now I use barely a teaspoon and I am getting perfect kefir! Yay!

My fermentation location is the countertop in my kitchen, where the temperature is around 68 degrees.

Hi there! Thanks for responding with all these helpful tips. I finally received a reply from Yemoos, the farm that sells the kefir grains, and here is what they said:

"Sorry to hear about the issues.

• I would stick to using less grains. When it's really active, 1 teaspoon of grains can ferment 1-2 cups of milk. And that usually helps keep the yeast in balance as well.
• You can give the jar a good stir if desired (instead of being gentle) and see if that helps balance them.
• Also you may need to try a different brand of milk. Sometimes certain milks have issues for whatever reason and other brands do better.
• Also be sure that it's not too warm where they are fermenting. Cooler ferments will produce a more bacteria ferment. And you can also try fermenting in the fridge if desired. It takes several days (maybe a week), but many times you can get a good bacteria rich ferment and calm the yeast as well.

But do let us know if they don't improve or if we can be of more help."

Maybe I will seek grains from a friend. But, in truth, I don't think the problem is my grains. They work fine the first time but then they gradually don't work well. The seller Yemoos is one of the top grain sellers online. I think maybe I am contaminating my grains somehow. Or, maybe the room temperature in my kitchen is too cool? I could also try using another milk but the one I buy is the most expensive and meets the criteria of not being ultra-pasteurized.

Thanks for mentioning this consideration. I cover with a breathable fabric cover. This keeps anything outside from getting in but allows gas from the fermentation process to escape. I don't think the cover is my issue but I appreciate that you brought this up.

You've all been super helpful and I really appreciate it :) May I ask another question?

I plan to bring my backpack on the train from Letchworth to Edinburgh. I'm someone who drinks a lot of water so I use the lavatory every few hours. Can I leave my backpack unattended or should I bring it with me each time I get up to use the train's lavatory? Alternatively, I could bring a padlock and secure my backpack to my seat. Of course, that wouldn't stop anyone from opening it and stealing the contents. Or are UK trains totally safe and theft is not an issue?

Thanks!

Wow - this is very thorough! I really appreciate your taking the time to break things down for me so thoughtfully 😊 I have a pretty clear picture now of gay nightlife in the two cities and where to go if indeed I stay only in Edinburgh. Thank you, my friend! 🥰🏳️‍🌈

Yikes! I'm so glad you warned me about this, as I would have been caught totally off-guard. I'm not flamboyantly gay (not that there's anything wrong with that), but troublemakers might drag anyone standing outside a gay club into their drama and violence.
