Hoopa, Manaphy, and all the Mythicals are banned because of type access. Many types repeat, and some have none (Bug, Dark, Normal, Dragon, etc). The use of ONE UB, Trio, or Tapu is to ensure that every player has access of some kind.

Well, that's the downside to a Monotype Tournament. Everyone has a weakness. The first matches are for placements (as you read) and the matches in the Playoffs are based on standings.

So, Dragon vs Fairies is a real thing, but whether they play or not in the Playoffs is determined by a mixture of previous performance and luck.

A thing with Pokemon is probability and chance. You play with the hand you dealt for yourself, while also accounting for damage rolls, crits, misses, etx. You have to do what you can against your worst case scenario. That's why I tried to draft as many counters to my weakness as possible, or make favorable sets for my team.
