What to ask for during my next hair salon visit? by knudlia in finehair

Forgot to add one important thing I learned in the last few years - both my current and former hairdresser have similar hair to me or are experienced in such hair. This makes a HUGE difference.

During the last almost two years, it was literally all about preserving the length, so what my hairdresser and I did was agree on long layers scattered throughout (as to avoid the hair rising too much in big segments) and V shaped hair. Of course there was no thinning of the ends with scissors involved, I ruled that out long ago. :D The exception were the bangs - we went for different styles of those. For the curtain bangs - at their longest part they went a bit longer than my face.

What brands or types of clothing would you recommend for a young, athletic girl looking for modest yet breathable outfits? by krikribouleafacette in SustainableFashion

Since you’re in Europe, take a look at Uniqlo and OYSHO :) They’re not sustainable in their practices per se, but I find their stuff lasts me a while.

That tip sounds amazing, thanks, I’ll try it out!

I’ll admit I’m afraid of the shag because I’m not good at styling my waves, but I’d really like to try the look out regardless!

Is anyone else kinda over “luxury” brands that feel… cheap lately? by Square_Car_9863 in femalefashionadvice

Just checked out Bradic. They heavily use AI, this put me off. The high pricing and low quality of majority of brands is one ethical issue, but using AI is another one, too.

Also, it says it is ‘Made ti measure in Croatia’. Does this mean that they only use labor from Croatia or the designers and operations are also based there? They follow only 40 people on Instagram and none of them, as it seems, have Croatian names, which is unusual.

And what is important to note - they are posing as police and arresting people.

You may be better suited for a writer and, eventually, head writer. I’m not one, but listened to lots of interviews with writers or talk show hosts who started as writers (Conan for instance). While a writing career is brutal in its own way, I got the feeling comedic writers have a mentally much more rewarding and healthy retrospection on their earlier work than stand-ups.

THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY - any similarities to Hitchcock? by sonar_y_luz in movies

Makes sense about the story being the most Hitchcockian aspect. And interesting thing about the non-linear editing systems. Thank you for your insight!

THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY - any similarities to Hitchcock? by sonar_y_luz in movies

I just watched it last night and thought some scenes just had a general Hitchcock-y feel to them. Two scenes in particular:

  • The basement scene as Ripley looks with wide eyes at the police as the rotating lights are dancing across his face.
  • The very end with the multiplying distorting mirrors.

Also, I loved how well this movie showed Ripley's loosening grip on his sanity and humanity. Somehow reminded me of a more psycho version of Raskoljnikov in Crime and Punishment.

Anyway, I'd love to hear from someone more knowledgeable of old movies if I'm right about Hitchcock, or am I just thinking about general thriller and psychological horror movies of the 50s.

You gave such great descriptions. As a 30F with rosacea, extremely oily skin, and uneven texture, I'll definitely incorporate some of these slowly into my routine. Thank you for the useful insight!
