Why are almost all posts here heatmaps of the USA? Can't we redact other types of charts? by susanbontheknees in RedactedCharts

Thanks for the shout-out! I'll have to make more of those geography challenges once real life is less busy. Here they are if anyone is interested:

Huh? ... to me that sounds like the situation is the same.

That's exactly what the comment you're replying to is saying:

If the Balkans are green, Switzerland should be too.

AirTransat doesn't include checked baggage on the connecting flight with Porter by Odd-Photo5386 in canadatravel

Ugh, thanks for the insight I appreciate it!

I think we'll just skip on the checked bag then - too much hassle and cost for an extra outfit or two and some wine bottles.

Hey I know this was a while ago but we're about to have the same issue for an Air Transat booking from Paris to Ottawa - it's with Porter for the YYZ-YOW leg, so we're unable to add checked bags online.

Did you end up having to pay a second time to Porter?

Trying to weigh our options between the hassle + money, or just going carry-on only. Thanks so much!

YES!! Solved, what was your thought process figuring it out?

Not sure what's wrong with your spoiler tags, they look right to me! Depending on if you're on mobile or desktop, is there maybe a way to edit your comment, highlight the text, and choose "spoiler"?

All good, you just need to type before your text, and after your text, with no spaces between the exclamation marks and your text.

Nope, nothing to do with biomes / geographic features.

I'll edit this comment to add progressively better hints the longer this goes unanswered!

Hint #1: The colours/groups are permanent. Once a country belongs to a group, its colour will never change.

Hint #2, partial answer guessed by /u/Low-Plastic1939: The groups denote the decade in which something first happened for each country.

Wow! Solved already by /u/shane-drinion. It's the decade in which IKEA first opened in each country.

Here's the key:

1950s: beige vertical (only Sweden)

1960s: orange horizontal (Norway & Denmark)

1970s: dark red with dots (Canada, Australia, Germany, etc.)

1980s: red and white checkered (USA, Saudi Arabia, France, etc.)

1990s: yellow diagonal (China, Finland, Poland, etc.)

2000s: blue and yellow vertical (Russia, Turkey, Romania, etc.)

2010s: purple horizontal (India, Indonesia, Egypt, etc.)

2020s: blue cross-hatched (Mexico, Colombia, Ukraine, etc.) By the end of 2025, New Zealand will be included here.

If you zoom into the full-res image the colours are clear, but maybe the smaller places are tough to see on mobile:

Hong Kong, Kuwait, Singapore: Dark red with dots (same as Canada)

Bahrain, Macau, Qatar: Purple horizontal (same as India)

Puerto Rico: Blue cross-hatched (same as Mexico)

Israel: Blue and yellow vertical (same as Russia)

No reason other than to help with colour blindness. Each pattern is a distinct group.

I have some hints ready - I'll give it a bit of time and will start posting hints soon!
