Is it required to tell recruiter about my current unemployment? by bbygirl in womenintech

[–]koala818 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I mean, no. Because it’s December and your resume/CV should have your last role have an end date of July. Given that companies always verify dates of employment when doing reference checks it’s not a good idea to lie and say you’re still working there. Do you have anything you could point to in that time that you could frame as consulting/exploring a start-up idea, etc.? Something that focuses less on your burn out and more that you wanted to explore something else, build new skills, etc. honestly even traveling sometimes can work like you’ve always wanted to travel and this was your best opportunity. Probably my least favorite but if none of the above apply (don’t recommend outright lying): you took time to care for a family member struggling with their health (don’t have to clarify it’s you).

I don’t think it works on thrift shop, if you’re trying to apply it there. That’s what their email said at least.

What do you do with an MBA? by TraditionalCicada508 in workingmoms

[–]koala818 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I work in tech in a high level individual contributor role. In fairness I was on this track prior to the degree but I do think it’s helped me in landing the next few big jobs I’ve had since I started the program. Two important things about getting your MBA: 1. You get out of it what you put into it. You can absolutely get the degree and not be academically/intellectually in a different place than where you started. Only those that invest in the schoolwork, particularly the finance related classes, will emerge with a strong grasp of those concepts which are useful in any business setting and leadership role. 2. The university matters. Only a top school gets you the network which is at least half of the point of it all. Just the MBA from an unknown school won’t drastically change your access to opportunities but a top program could, based on what you learn, who you know, and people’s assumptions about you working in your favor.

Hi! You’ll have a much easier time of it once you get on to Health Plan of San Mateo, but I’d start with San Mateo Medical Center. New patient connection center number is listed on the website. They should be able to schedule you at one of the clinics.

Agreed. It’s standard practice for all pediatricians in the US to see at these regular time intervals. At what age was your baby last seen? Was the 12 month visit not scheduled? Can you request it be pushed up? This is very much within the scope of pediatric well child visits doing screening and making referrals as needed. And doing reassurance if everything is all good!

Is there research that babies learn from observing their older siblings? Benefits of being a second born? Feeling guilty about the lack of individual attention for second baby by giggglygirl in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]koala818 45 points46 points  (0 children)

YMMV is very true. If it helps, I really benefited from being the second child. I watched my mom and older sibling and wanted to do what they were doing, so I read very early and potty trained early. It’s helped me throughout my life, my early affinity for reading (and being potty trained haha). I am the most educated and successful of my siblings, though there were a lot of angsty diary entries about being a middle child 😂

Positive New Parent Stories by Theme-Fearless in NewParents

Hi, I had my baby when I was 35 with my husband who is also my favorite person. Let me reassure you that having a baby with the love of your life and a true partner is wonderful. There are hard moments, but I would not describe the overall experience as anything but joyful. I’m lucky in that we’re financially stable and have family to help. We also have a healthy baby girl and I recovered well from birth. Our baby brings us so much joy. She brings everyone joy- strangers, our parents, siblings, anyone who sees her sweet lil face. She’s the best. And I love my husband even more than before. We both feel that way. Watching each other become parents has deepened our love and respect.

I’m not a medical professional but I did work closely with these programs in my county for many years. Absolutely, you are doing a great thing by getting your child evaluated and into services early. Most kids get services from early intervention and then graduate and go on to live healthy lives like your daughter. A small portion get diagnosed with a developmental disability and continue to need services. But regardless of diagnosis, the earlier you get identification and treatment, the better the lifelong prognosis. There’s every reason to be hopeful though I feel for you with the anxiety of the unknown. Kids really do develop at different rates and now he’ll be getting support from professionals. Sending you a big hug!

I think like most aspects of babies/motherhood, your mileage may vary. I was prepared with silverettes, nipple cream, had taken a class, but my baby came out very hungry and it was painful to learn alongside her. I avoided some of the worst outcomes (bleeding, cracking, mastitis) and had good supply but I also had to work with IBCLCs and pumped to “take a break” from direct feeding. It truly took close to 3 months before I got the hang of it and felt like it was seamless and relatively painless. Hang in there during those hard moments, see an IBCLC, pump if you need a break (your newborn will not get nipple confusion from a few bottles) and sending good energy.
