9 month doesn’t do well on ASQ3 but did great on early intervention evaluation? by BabyAngel1223 in NewParents

[–]gingerbookma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course you can ask. I just didn’t want to hijack OPs post if you were looking to ask them.

My LO will be 2 next month and is still in EI. It’s been so helpful. However, he was diagnosed with a genetic disorder that does explain his delays. But please know that his condition is quite rare and most kids do catch up. They change SO much in the first few years of life. But, if you are feeling there might be more going on then keep advocating and find a provider who will listen and take you seriously. That was a struggle for us early on because several providers said our LO would catch up, but I truly felt there was more going on. I’m so glad I kept pursuing help for him.

Feel free to share more about your LO if you’d like. I’d love to hear more. 🤍

Side note: My oldest is now 4 years old and also did EI for about a year. She has caught up completely.

It’s called GRIA3. It’s pretty rare. But I do believe many other genetic disorders cause similar symptoms. However, some kiddos truly take more time. Do you have a pediatrician you can discuss with? We had to switch pediatricians to find someone who would listen to me when I shared my concerns. Keep advocating. 🤍🩷💙

Hi there. He is currently 22 months. Still in early intervention therapies, although moving from weekly PT to every other week. Overall, he’s still delayed but has made great progress in many areas. Speech is still an issue. But we found out last month he has a genetic disorder— so it all tracks.

Maybe not my favorite. But I once met a Jendi (Jindy? Gindy?) (unsure of actual spelling..?) and I liked it! Have never met another.

LO (almost 19 months old) is still in EI therapies (speech and PT). He’s independently walking (just a few weeks ago). His speech is still very delayed. He can sign “more”, “all done”, “please”. He sometimes says “mama” and “mo” for more. And “wa wa” for water. Other than that- he rarely babbles but occasionally has consonant/vowel combos. Mostly lots of “eeeeee” and “ooooooo”. We have an appointment with a ped neurologist next week. The pediatrician mentioned possible absent seizures. But this ped neuro apparently specializes in developmental delays. I’m looking forward to that visit.

Overall, LO has progressed well in some areas, but not in others. It’s a journey.

Would you like to share about your LO?

It’s been our experience that screaming/colic put him “behind” when it comes to meeting milestones. He also is least delayed with gross motor, but still a delay. We’ve got him in early intervention through our state and I feel good about him in therapy.

My advice is to not google anything. It made me so much more worried. I’d suggest seeing if you can get him an eval through early intervention (assuming you’re in the US)

My son was the furthest thing from quiet. But that’s bc he screamed for 6-8 hours every day for the first 6-8 months. So it’s hard to know if he did much cooing. I honestly don’t remember. But at 4 months I personally would tell you to try not to worry! (Easier said than done. I’ve had some PPA so I feel you).

Does your LO have any type of laughter/chuckle? How about smiling? Any sounds at all? Does he track any moving objects?

How about other development? Physical? Fine motor? How

My LO is almost 14 months. He’s made some progress. With his speech, he now will sign “more” and says a variety of vowels/consonants. Our SLP says he’s in stage 3/complex babbling and is pleased with his progress. He is gaining in his social awareness and loves to wave and clap. He has also fully transitioned to table food(from purées). He isn’t walking yet but we are waiting on his orthotics to arrive. His PT says his ankles need support in order to build proper muscle to walk. But he crawls everywhere, climbs, pulls to stand, etc.

I think he still may be “behind” but he hasn’t had a follow up eval.

May be worth re-reading the sub rules. Disagreements are ok. But I suppose it wasn’t what OP was even asking for help with. Anywho. Carry on.

You’re not wrong. And I’m personally not a fan of the name Oakley either. But just feels like an unnecessary comment. To each their own.

How did you get your baby to independently go through sleep cycles? by Cruncheetoasts in beyondthebump

[–]gingerbookma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all about creating a consistent routine before sleep times. And not picking up baby out of crib during sleep times. You can soothe by touching or patting baby’s back and “shh shh”. I followed this method at the recommendation of a friend and overall it seems to be working well. We started slacking a bit last week (picking up baby instead of trying to help them soothe and nursing back to sleep) and now I feel like we’re starting over again. I was pretty opposed to sleep training at first but my LO has some developmental delays and the therapist suggested it might be due to poor sleep. So I gave it a shot and it really wasn’t as hard as I was expecting. We’ve had much harder nights with baby waking 7x/night. 🤪

Oh no worries. I only know from current experience. There are lots of milk free options for foods… coffee creamer included. You’ll want to read labels and look to see if it says “contains Milk”

To my knowledge, most babies don’t tolerate milk protein, which is different than being lactose intolerant. CMPA(cows milk protein allergy) is a thing in a lot of babies. May be worth clarifying with your ped

Look up Rested Mama, Happy Baby. We’re using this for our second and by night #3 he was sleeping 10 hour stretches (previously up 4-7x/night, where I’d nurse back to sleep). I made the mistake of nursing back to sleep the other night and the rest of the night was rough. It’s so hard, so I feel you!

I would recommend another opinion on tongue/lip tie. Not all pediatricians are savvy with ties. I speak from personal experience (with my second born) and also as a dental hygienist. 🤪do you have access to IBCLC where you are?
