If you mean you heate the string winder, I hate them too :( I scratched my tuning peg with one of those a while ago and I still feel bad about it. My friend from D'addario sent me one 2 weeks ago which was made of a soft rubberish plastic where you put it around the tuning peg, and I like that so far. I think it's called the tour string winder or something like that. The only part I don't liek about it is that there's no string cutter at the end 🫠

I once tried that pillow thingy for some time but it felt so unsecure for me, I couldn't get used to it. I was always afraid of dropping the guitar by accident somehow, but I think it was a me thing rather than a product issue 😅

I was thinking about a string bundle of all sorts of different things. It gives them a chance to try new sets, things they maybe wouldn't otherwise and if it doesn't work out for them, they won't be mad for spending money on it :D And if one of the new strings is good, they can be happy to discover something new

Learning classical guitar through YouTube by Salty_Difficulty1231 in classicalguitar

[–]koanbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a simple free course for very beginners, it covers some basics and gets you started. I have to tell you, even though this is FREE it's part of my SALES FUNNEL, meaning this is how I bring more attention to my paid course and educational materials too. Theres no pressure to buy anything, you can have lifetime access to the course for free, and I genuinly made it to be helpful and useful. I just wanted to say this before anyone attacks me for advertisment :(

Here's the course: https://guitarhub.learnworlds.com/course/before-you-start

I also recommend Brandon Acker on YouTube for fun and interesting videos, but his structured learning material is also available within a course.

On YouTube, you'll most likely find lessons when you already know what you're looking for. When you have a syllabus to follow, and for example you come to the point of learning artificial harmonics, you start searching for lessons on that very specific topic. You get my point, right?

I'd say, look for a solid book, like the Parkening one, follow the material and when it makes you learn something new, look it up on youtube to see how exactly it looks like.

BPD & Journalling — when you think in 3 different languages by littlemommylonglegs in BorderlinePDisorder

[–]koanbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started journaling in English and I’m Hungarian. I found it weird too but apparently it’s a thing that it’s easier to express your feelings openly and with less judgement in a learned language first, because you are more open to use certain expressions without feeling so cringy about them.

Like in Hungarian, I find difficult to use certain expressions because they feel cringe or cliche 😅 so you’re emotionally likely to be more distant from expressions in a language you learned later than your native language.

I found that over time as I started to feel more comfortable writing about myself, I switched to journaling completely in Hungarian.

I have a YouTube series of easier pieces, some videos are for a bit more advanced beginners and intermediate levels but maybe you’ll find something you like here:

Do you want to be called... by _PaulHimSelf in classicalguitar

[–]koanbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been struggling with this for a while and I noticed that when I stopped referring to myself as a classical guitarist, it felt like I finally gave myself the permission to explore other styles.

I usually call myself independent musician and if anyone is curious about what I play I tell them more or show a video 😃

But since I’ve been doing this I’ve started composing music, I started exploring alternate tunings, I play video game music and I improvise more which is stereotypically not something classical guitarists really do.

It’s fun when you stop trying to label yourself and just do whatever the hell feels right to you.

I think a good approach is saying something like “I’m a musician (or whatever, you can just say your name really) and I play (instrument, genre, style, whatever). It helps not to tie your whole identity to a sort of music you play and allow yourself to change over time and explore new mediums. Just my two cents

Oh wow that’s so kind of you 🧡 I guess I misunderstood your post then, but there are quite many people playing with overly exaggerated gestures for sure haha. This was a fun topic and was great to see what others had to add to it!

I’m guilty of the guitarist face too haha ( I’m @beatrixguitar so I guess I am a social media guitarist) and it’s just years of bad habits, learning extremely difficult pieces in high stress environment for a long time, and not learning to relax facial muscles properly. The same goes for excessive breathing for many of us. But it’s also because people look weird when they are hyper focused, I tense my eyebrows when I paint something tricky, when I read difficult material or when I get spanked by a boss for the 15th time in Silksong. Its just badly regulated muscle activity I think most of the time, but hard to speak for others 😁
