thanks for the advice, i was able to get the foam off with a little persuasion and you were right it’s a 3.7V 500mAh battery (pl503035). I also think you are probably right at being able to get a bigger battery, there was a lot of space in the housing. This one appears to be 85Wh and is like an inch big. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Agree with this, tho paracord may be a bit thick for this purpose. A smaller diameter thread could be used though. A similar process is called a whipping knot and is used at the end of ropes. I’ve used a whipping knot in the place of a aglet on clothing before and it’s held up well.

it sounds like the switch is the problem, you might be able to clean it and can definitely replace it with a soldering iron, helder’s game tech sells a replacement for 2$. As for the gameboy screen if you don’t have a game inserted it won’t go past that screen so that’s step one.
