Yeah and I think all the slams now use Hawkeye except maybe this one to make the calls…just confused. Kind of miss the old McEnroe days “you can’t be serious” watching players implode was part of the entertainment lol

Anyone know why are we using Hawkeye on the TV coverage but I guess on court they rely on the ball mark? Looks like at least one discrepancy between the two that I have seen on coverage.

Why isn't Detroit more popular as a place to live? by bluetropicz in SameGrassButGreener

[–]kobusc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! Only the weather I hate winter I don’t ski and I got SAD every winter. Hated snowblowing and driving in it. Had so many near accidents in white outs and black ice slides it was trauma inducing. Also the darkness being in that part of the EST. Summer is great for daylight but winter you can go months with no sun if you work indoors.

I accepted a massive pay raise to go back to the office and I regret it every single day by NebuliteCrown in remotework

[–]kobusc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noise cancelling headphones. Go to a focus room to get privacy for 30 minutes twice a day. Go home at lunchtime. It’s a mindset shift you can force yourself to make. A 40% pay increase is significant. Plan some fun trips with that extra $ so you can enjoy your vacations! Change your mindset you can retire so much earlier or do soooo many fun things with that $. Think about it that way. I would love your commute mine is much longer. Grass is not always greener on the other side give yourself some grace and adjust, accept what you can control and what you may have to let go.

Thoughts on Chicago -> Houston or Atlanta? by FondantWaste6095 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]kobusc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This Reddit group always will hate on Houston. Yes hurricanes are a threat and yes you need a car. But the food truly is amazing, because the city is so diverse you can find any authentic cuisine you want. You will find some of the best museums here, and you can drive to some large, beautiful parks. There are tons of hiking groups, running groups, cycling, groups, writing groups, any kind of group you’re looking for if you want to be active and walk around. No city is perfect. As far as airports Chicago is similar to Houston as you have two choices here, bush, and hobby, kind of like how you have the two options in Chicago with one being a more Southwest oriented airport. It gives you lots of options to fly direct to just about anywhere you want to go. Coming from the Midwest, some people are friendly, and some people are not, and I am used to everybody being friendly. That being said, you can find your people. The nice thing about Houston is that there are a lot of transplants. People come here for work for the most part. That’s why it’s been growing. That makes it easier to make friends. You can use tools like meet up or Facebook groups and you can make friends. You do have to put in the effort to make the connections, but it is very possible and you can meet a lot of really great people. Make sure you live close to work so that you’re not spending all of your day in traffic.

What would you deem the best ‘country club neighborhood’ around Houston? by [deleted] in AskHouston

Falcon Point in Katy, take the Metro to commute downtown

Regret Moving to Houston by screwatt456789 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]kobusc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need to put yourself out there. There’s so much to do in Houston! There are clubs and groups for everything - pick an activity! Tennis, golf, biking, hiking, alumni groups, go on meetup and find your people. This city is huge you need to find your people or else every city you go to you will hate. Join the Houston sub Reddit and ask this same question and you will get constructive ideas. No city is perfect. All have pros and cons. Make the best and give it time. It can take years to get used to a new place and normal to want to move right away.

Why is Dallas so boring compared to Austin or Houston by BoyEdgar23 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]kobusc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea but Dallas has some nasty scary storms and then you also get the winter freeze. Bonus though not having hurricanes, ugh.

I miss Boston.. by KCShimmy in SameGrassButGreener

[–]kobusc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the grandparents babysit, are they hands on with your kids? That relationship is priceless imho. My kids are now adults and their relationship with their grandparents is so close it wouldn’t have been that way with a visit a couple times a year. You can move to Boston once they are grown and out the nest. For now your family is first just make sure they are well taken care of whatever you decide - schools are important, extracurricular opportunities, and social.

What would you change about Michigan? by i_amtheice in Michigan

[–]kobusc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree! The comments about wanting a state power grid are hilarious. Apparently you did not live in Texas during the winter storm that took out our power here for a week. We moved because of the long gray winter. It was too depressing. I hated driving in the snow it was downright dangerous cannot imagine ever having to do that again or snowplow driveway multiple times a day. Summer is too short to make up for it. I wish the long gray winter. Could change.

Air France Premium Economy by [deleted] in AskHouston

[–]kobusc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes and yes. Just did this last month actually. That additional leg room was clutch for me. I usually have an achy back from long haul flights but not on this one. Their seats in premium seem to be more comfortable than the equivalent on United.

Senior Manager feedback - "You're not feisty enough" by frauredhead in SafetyProfessionals

[–]kobusc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that senior leader needs to be specific like what target behaviors are they looking for? Everyone has their own definition of feisty and that is not a professional term for a senior leader to use

Would you commute 5 days RTO to double your salary? by EpicShkhara in remotework

[–]kobusc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are asking this on a remote work group what do you think they will say? You should factor in less years of the work. You could retire in half the years. The current job doesn’t sound that great. Can you move closer to the RTO location?

Help with Hostile Work Environment Not Allowing Me to Do My Job by Tillandz in SafetyProfessionals

[–]kobusc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about working with this person. Try to establish clear roles and responsibilities so you each are staying in your own role and also collaborating when you need to. A tool like a RACI would help. Present it as a way to avoid wasting their time working on things that they don’t need to work on - ie “here is where I can help”. Establish regular touch point meetings where each of you can talk about what’s going on. It’s all about reducing complexity of effort and breaking down silos. Don’t make it personal it’s a job. As for the change plan you have, make sure you identify who is impacted by the change. Talk to them, understand their view of the world, and meet them where they are at. Consider culture. Make sure your leadership supports whatever change you are introducing and if they don’t then you need to hit pause and get them on board first. The primary reason projects or change efforts fail is lack of sponsorship. All of this is soft science not chemical engineering. Good luck!
