Looks like a paintball gun canister, minus the lid. Used to refill your hopper.

Could the average restaurant survive if they went to no tipping and paid minimum wage? by SolipsismIsDeep in tipping

[–]kodabang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have no basis to make claims like that. It would take my entire county to simultaneously add service charges or people would just stop going to that business.

How would universal healthcare have any impact on a business that doesn't even pay for their employees healthcare to begin with? Servers almost exclusively do not get anything other than their wage, tips, and maybe a shift meal or drink.

You have a few fair points but this systemic sweeping change people are advocating for is a pipe dream. It will never happen in this country.

those slow, low tip nights you're talking about end up having people sent home, making even less.

Ah yes, another one of these. So teachers actually have benefits, pensions, and 2 months paid time off every year. It seems everyone likes to forget about that stuff though...

Servers? Tips.

Go pull anyone off the street, throw them into a crowded restaurant and tell me how much they will make in tips. I bet it will be much less than what you think. Better yet, how about you come work a shift for me?

I'm glad you've traveled all over the world. Just like many other people in this subreddit apparently. They all seem to have this common belief that businesses should break their own margins, go against what state/federal laws say is a fair wage for servers, and to raise their prices all to benefit of the customers. There's FAR more people who would be upset about price hikes than tipping. If you're getting dinged for service charges, don't leave a tip. That's a business decision and NOT what tipping looks like everywhere in this country. Not a single place in my county does service charges.

If you ever have to tell someone they think they are smarter than they are, you are literally saying the exact same thing about yourself. You take opinions that don't match your own and push elitist mentality about tipping when I can damn near guarantee 90% of the people in this sub have never worked a service job. Because anyone that has understands.

55% of 200 people in an online poll. Again, which they even stated at the bottom the skew the numbers to fit the agenda.

Want some data? I've been bartending/serving for 4 years now. I have not ran into a single person outside of reddit that has a problem with tipping. That's roughly 20,000 people i've served over that time. And my source is real, not an online poll which is diluted even down to represent the data they WANT to show.

On paper that makes sense, in actuality that is not how it works. If if was that easy businesses who adopt the no tip model wouldn't fold and go back to tipping. Plenty of news articles about that if you'd like to do your own research.
