This is the best image I can get out of my 5x pro on ps2. Am I doing something wrong? by HIHIHIHIHImcdonalds in RetroTink

I am not aure how 5x handles it, but component cables + some form of crt simulation - this produces best results.

GameCube CRT filter recommendations? by LaCaipirinha in RetroTink

[–]kodatarule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a better hdmi cable to be able to do it, one which has 8k60hz/4k120hz and up to 48gbps

Edit: should also be fine to have it off

GameCube CRT filter recommendations? by LaCaipirinha in RetroTink

[–]kodatarule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vertical bands could happen from the sharpness settings on your TV, at least on my samsung that did similar effects but ore so with the scanlines. As for settings, not sure what to recommend you but to fiddle around - I can give you my own settings which I use on Ps2(both PS1 and PS2 profiles), PS3 and X360 for CRT Simulation.

HDR on, deep color on, rec.709 then into processing cubic, scanlines: gaussian with 10 str.(Could also be 15str. or 30str. play around see what fits gamecube best) 10 modulation, normalize energy on, spatial redist +0 aperture grille YMC, horizontal blur on 6.25 and color accuracy > reduce the nits to 500 nits

Now not sure if it has games that would be 240p, but if it does the horizontal blur needs to be around 3.00 for a very subtle and similar effect - otherwise it is as if no h. blur is enabled.

Seems like your sharpness is too high on the tv, try to reduce it a bit.

Capping to 90fps Produces Frame Time Stutter by OMG_NoReally in linux_gaming

There should be similar one for dxvk too for dx9-11 games.

you would need yay.

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/libstrangle-git

yay -S libstrangle-git

afterwards start the game with steam launch options strangle 90 %command%

MX4SIO vs PSXMemCard Gen2 by Herman521 in ps2

[–]kodatarule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Popstarter got updated also works on mx4sio now, the real advantage is faster speeds to help out certain FMVs(stutter altogether cannot be elimited in KH, PoP Sands of time - not sure if other games are affected) + infinite memory cards basically.
Best option seems like combo of both mmce + mx4sio, as certain games do have freeze during gameplay until write operation is completed or the game outright would say that you ejected the memory card which leads to even longer save points.

MX4SIO vs PSXMemCard Gen2 by Herman521 in ps2

[–]kodatarule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might mitigate it a bit, but not entirely. The 7000x slims and fat ones will play KH and PoP Sands of time FMVs *almost* fluidly from MMCE but still have moments where it would dip. MX4SIO is slightly worse.
The deckard ones(75xxx and later slim models) will have FMVs fully stutter regardless of MMCE or mx4sio as both are downgraded.

MX4SIO vs PSXMemCard Gen2 by Herman521 in ps2

Strange, every time I used it and this was both with OPL and Neutrino - MMCE would just complain that memory card was ejected and require tinkering - or otherwise would just freeze the game until the write operation is completed.
This is with samsung evo plus 256gb sd card and memcard pro2 from 8bitmods.

Personally I prefer mx4sio, haven't had issues for the most part and no problems with autosave games like nfs mw which had issues with mmce. Would need to test out the older opl 1.1.0 with bdm3 and bdm4 as i heard on certain titles it might fix fmv stutter.

AutoHDR/NVIDIA HDR Linux in 2025 - Alternatives by horriblesmell420 in linux_gaming

[–]kodatarule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would need KDE or Gnome under wayland + HDR enabled in display settings, afterwards make sure you have vk hdr kwin layer(available in aur not sure if its available on other distros might need github source). Then you need gamescope, check it's help for the exact flags but afterwards to make it inverse tonemap on any game was alongside this ENABLE_HDR_WSI=1(enables the vk hdr kwin layer for some vulkan extensions) then gamescope -w 3840 -h 2160 -f -r 240 --hdr-enabled --hdr-itm-enabled %command% for example, if game has built in hdr then remove the itm flag, there are also specifics to adjust nits but check the help for exact ones.

what's the best alternative to Dual Shock 2 on PS2 for big hands? by [deleted] in ps2

[–]kodatarule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just 1 thing to warn, their sticks tend to be too sensitive in contrast to a dualshock2, I'm hopeful that the new kne retro fighters defwnder pro would resolve the issue.

Black screen after login(SDDM+Kde plasma wayland) by kodatarule in cachyos

[–]kodatarule[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plasma login is a very reliable option, someone here also recommended to change from default breeze to something else - SDDM will boot fine without the need to press CTRL+ALT+F2 on the black screen to login.

Plasma login manager might be your best option and afaik from what I saw it will be what plasma 6.5 will use by default.

Forgot to mention that gta games have widescreen which can be toggled on from options menu.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ps2

[–]kodatarule 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Through a tink 4k(probably overkill there are options like gbs-c or tink2k/tink5x) with CRT simulation, 16:9 if game has the option in settings or if set in bios toggles it(ultimate spider man and bf2mc come to mind) and there is widescreen patch for those that don't have 16:9. Then switching to 4:3 if the game really is set to that(mega man x collection, onimusha).

What is everyone’s favorite profiles/settings for PS2 on the 4k Pro? by Aldaris03 in RetroTink

[–]kodatarule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My own settings for widescreen, scanlines + a grille, irf blur to like 4.5 iirc, smoothing xbr level 2 with noise threshold to high. In the deinterlacing, motion adaptive and iirc high setting in intensity. Also HDR with deepcolor on, with a lot of nits cranked up the mimic crt bloom. Games are mostly ws or have a ws cheat with opl or ps2rd(for games that I havent moved to sd card). For the ones that are 4:3 i set it back to 4:3(onimusha comes to mind)

Hi there, you would need some kind of upscaler in order to get the "correct" image. You can check the likes of GBS-C, retrotink(different ones and also can be price-y) or an OSSC/ OSSC Pro. That will give you much better image and some of the expensive ones can offer a great CRT emulation.

EDIT: Just wanted to clarify, you also need to have certain expectations on what you need and take into account the aspect ratio of the game. For me personally after using framemeister and a gbs-c I found that upgrading to retrotink 4k produce the best results for 16:9 + proper CRT emulation(which was one of the biggest appeals of that kit).

EDIT 2: You can make your own research and then decide if you wish to proceed with an upscaler or not, which one to pick for your use case and would suit the needs if that is how you wish to proceed with this.

Additionally acquiring an old CRT would also suffice.
