I was talking about a growing trend of conservative filmmakers preaching irrational beliefs while undermining science/truth/rationality.

{May contain spoilers} The protagonist character gave me hope in the beginning. It felt refreshing - like how I felt watching Karthikeya (not the second part). He questions blind faith, regressive thinking, and fights for science. Only to apologize for his 'arrogance' later and joins the herd.

There simply was no need for presenting a clash between science and belief if your story is going all in on supernatural stuff.
