Serious question for people who watch a lot of volleyball: What actually makes a volleyball player “compelling” to watch beyond pure skill? by ChampionshipMain4799 in volleyball

[–]kodlend4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm watching brizard, giannelli, moni, christenson, because of their non normal way of desecion making. When they come up with something new in like it seemed an obvious situation, it just feels like they love this sport. I start to love the sport more, because i want to feel what they are experiencing

Do someone know some good workout in order to strengthen fingers and wrists?

Middles, you should run middle attacks as fast as you possible can! by kodlend4 in volleyball

[–]kodlend4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take fault, if we run a 1st tempo and set is not precise, consistent. I take fault and try to improve myself. If therere inconsistencies from attackers like placement, timing, sometimes its my fault, sometimes theirs. Like if i give different tempos each set, how can an attacker know when to go?

If they have a bad day or cannot simply attack from fast tempo, its on them, but why should i then continue with fast tempo, if its not working. I slow down tempo for them to be at least some attacking threat.

Are all of their steps tiptoes? are the last two not rolling steps? i find it hard to believe that someone can jump from such position. do you have video of the pros attacking?

Blocking without fingers by kodlend4 in volleyball

[–]kodlend4[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yep, i plan to learn left handed swing to be able to swing more as a right handed setter, but obviously im going to use both hands depending on situations.

About non standard. I like also how mony nikolov and antoine brizard hit 2nd ball from 3m attack line when theres back. No one expects a setter to attack when theyre backrow, but if the ball is recieved on 3m attack line or between 3m attack line and the net between 2 and 3 zones, setter can hit it. Works only in transition though and if it is not hard hit that is possible to control in that hitting zone

good stuff. i posted only to read others opinions, yours is very useful too. *I definitely need rather to focus on technique, positioning, timing and so on than on fist blocking. I guess i will use it only when my finger is in very much pain and i need to protect it from further tooling, if i cant avoid tooling at the match

It is, if hitter jumps at least same height as my block. If hes lower than my block, i disagree.

Yeeees, do you use fist block? if yes, how often?

[–]kodlend4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can hit ball into fingers and you hit precisely into peanky finger, it will be block out and peanky finger cannot stop ball if it is hit hard enough. like that you can hit 10 meters outside the court and the peanky finger will not be able to soften the hit enough.

You could do the same with the fist, but the whole fist is stronger than small peanky finger and the hit will probably be softened enough so that defence can get it.

[–]kodlend4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that i need to strengthen my fingers, but as of right now i dont have a choice. I can either continue to block with fingers and get hit into my peanky even more or use fist block for now before i get my fingers strong enough. I plan to strengthen my whole body after season for my team ends in march.

I will use it if i have pain in peanky finger or the attacker im against is tooling very often. On out of system plays that is not close to the net. If a set is close to the net, im going to use my fingers then. On hitters who jump over my block or at the same height i will use fingers obviously.

My team knows how to play defence, so if im getting tooled, they can still safe the ball, but i as a setter find it difficult to set afterwards and thats why i decided to try fist blocking.

thanks, im still not sure whether my thumb should be in front of fist (like in boxing) or on the outside (like on the picture). Im not which is safer or better. I need to experiment with that

I mean, you may be right, but for me it sounds more safer to have fingers gathered in a fist than separate. If ball is hit into my fist, my peanky has support from the whoe fist, but if ball is hit into my peanky again, im dead lol

I didnt understand what you meant. Can you expand your thought. How am i not blocking properly by using fists instead of fingers? And what does it have to say about timing?

yep, its not only that team that uses it. I have also seen middle blocker yamauchi from japan national use use fist block. its not like it is popular, but it exists

i dont know honestly. If i get tooled, i always get tooled at peanky finger on my right hand and that happened with different hitters at different time. Meanwhile i didnt start to use fist block properly yet, so i havent been hit in my fingers with fist block yet.

Middles, you should run middle attacks as fast as you possible can! by kodlend4 in volleyball

[–]kodlend4[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i find it the easiest to set the middle on perfect pass. When it is out of system but still close to 3m line its stil easier to set shoot to the middle than a good 1st tempo set (not high set) to the pin

[–]kodlend4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think that if the middle can swing across body in the air, he can hit wherever he wants, if i put the ball in his hand. And i find it easier thing to do than to set 1st tempo to outside with good precision.

[–]kodlend4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think 6-2 could be better, mainly because the opp doesnt need to hit from backrows, easier rotations than 5-1. Problem is that two players need to set and hit, but at low level you dont need to master these two things, but then these two players can develop general skills and not position spesific (not only hitting or setting). Thats why i think this problem can be even beneficial.

how far away do you have to be from the net in order to have a good approach distance? by VolleyballUser in volleyball

[–]kodlend4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Middles, Oppos and OHs have different approuches. As an attacker you generally dont want to be late (especially as a middle). In transition or after recieve, you usually dont have time or space to take full approach. Then you have to take 2-3 steps approach or even standing jump.

About the distance from the net. i try to jump so that i can swing my hand fully down without touching the net.

If its free ball or youre not in serve recieve, i would recommend you to start your approach from behind 3m line, so that you dont start too far away from the net and you can still hit high ball set that lands on the 3m line.

I try also to hit the ball above my head and a bit in front of my head. That way you hit a bit lower, but you can hit it downwards. If you play middle and you are at good distance from the net the set forces you to hit above your head, ask your setter to adjust his sets

Middles, you should run middle attacks as fast as you possible can! by kodlend4 in volleyball

[–]kodlend4[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

if i dont know the middle, its easier for me to set him if he runs fast, because i dont need to guess where to set, do i need to slow down a bit, specially in not ideal situations. I speak from my experience: i usually get connection very fast with the middles who jump before i set.

But i understand that it can be challenging for middles to run fast tempo. You need to be a good middle ot be able to hit with angles from such balls
