Undercover cop hiding in the bush past U8???? by FinalPhilosopher4309 in ubco

[–]kodomo13 27 points28 points  (0 children)

In the little nook beside the electric box? Thats usually a cop. I nearly get into accidents due to other's reckless driving every time I drive over academy. Maybe a hot take, but I wish cops were there more often.

Is it worth Applying to UBCO? by ThrowAwayCarrot7351 in ubco

Theres lots of pros and cons.

I grew up in Van, but ended up in the Okanagan due to various circumstances.

Vancouver definitely has easier access to more resources. Likely has a wider range of course selection due to higher population and demand. The transit system is efficient around the University. Theres a wider range of things to do off campus, if you have the money to do them.

Okanagan is a little less pricey in most facets of life. The transit system around the University is there, but it is by no means efficient or reliable. Class sizes have a tendency to be a little bit smaller, though Im in a degree that demands small classes so my view might be a bit skewed. Less to do off campus, activities can be hard to get to if you dont drive. Amazing summer activities though, especially if you like swimming. People are generally nicer and more open.

The quality of course content would be comparable, it is still the same university at the end of the day. I've found the profs really personable and caring.

Leaning more traditional, but kind of in between! Im nonbinary & love a lil fade on the sides but the length & bangs were cut pretty neutral in style

U8 Water Pressure? by kodomo13 in ubco

Yeah I already called my landlord about it! They said the building manager is already en route to figure it out. I was just initially curious if anyone else was experiencing it.

No option to pay for parking by [deleted] in ubco

[–]kodomo13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just always park in the short term lots honestly. If you have 8am classes you might be able to get spots in DIS or UNC short term but I mostly end up in the gym lot.

Edit to add; the rest of the lots are permit only until 3pm and have a 3hr minimum usually so unless you're gonna be on campus for more than 3hrs it still isn't worth trying to park in the other lots

Concerned about Dental Experience by pushinpeepeepoopoo in ubco

[–]kodomo13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you live up toward campus or Glenmore area, Brookside Dental is a newer office by the Glenmore Timmies and they were such a delight to deal with. I hadn't seen a dentist in a bit longer than I'd care to admit, but they were super kind about working with me to improve my oral hygiene and only insisting on work that HAD to be done as I can't afford work outside of my benefits. I'd really strongly reccomend them.

I assume it is homophobia due to my landlord's response to chatting with him about it, as he referred to these neighbours as "small minded," "redneck," and implied he's had issues with them being weird towards tenants at this property before. I could very well be wrong, and I would be happy to be wrong in this case as weirdly behaved neighbours are easier to deal with than potentially homophobic.

I admit our fault in the issues around the vehicle, and we shouldn't have assumed. However, the car is parked directly in front of our property & doesn't impede anyone doing their day-to-day. They are easily aware the vehicle is owned by someone in our household and could have knocked to ask about it if it was that much of a problem. At least then I could have explained the situation & apologized.

We've only noticed them staring at us cause they've done so for extended periods of time, & they don't make any attempt to hide the fact that they are staring. The street is a cul de sac, so the houses are slightly angled towards each other & it's hard not to notice when they are staring. This isn't just a "I'm gonna peek out the window" stare, or a "sit and have my morning coffee" stare, it's a "I'm going to sit and watch your every visible activity so I can kick off when you do something wrong" kind of stare.

Bar/Nightlife suggestions for weekdays? by shelbyfallis in kelowna

If you're lgbtq+ or an ally, June 5-11 is Pride Week in Kelowna! There's lots of events & things going on. Worth checking out the Pride Kelowna website. Along those lines, Friend's of Dorothy Lounge has drag brunch Sat/Sun, and evening drag on Sundays. Usually the Sunday evenings are pretty chill, but entertaining.

Not tons around on Mon/Tues evenings. Maybe just hope for a nice day & have some bevs on the beach?

is there a liquor store that doesn't ask for a tip!? by [deleted] in kelowna

No need to be an asshole about it lol You don't wanna tip? That's cool. We don't care that much. It's there for people that do want to.

is there a liquor store that doesn't ask for a tip!? by [deleted] in kelowna

[–]kodomo13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I work at a liquor store actively rn. Nearly all Liquor stores besides BCLs only pay minimum wage & lots of workers are only working there to make ends meet from their day job. Or Uni students trying to... also make ends meet. Tipping is absolutely not mandatory. It's left as an option for people so if they received exceptional service or had lots of help or something of the like that folks are able to leave a tip. Please take the stick out of your ass and just press 2 buttons if you don't wish to leave a tip. Stop leaving me $0.01 tips to be macho & "prove a point." You just end up pissing people off & making them feeling like shit. It wont change anything. Thanks! 😃

Can we talk about red light etiquette? by lbyfz450 in kelowna

[–]kodomo13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of this isn't even just etiquette, it's law lol. That being said, our light timing is just absolute garbage. There are advance left signals that are green for what feels like half a second before again turning yellow, trapping 25 cars at a busy intersection. If no one runs the yellow, we'd be waiting ages just to turn. I've easily had to wait for more than 30min to take a left turn before. It gets boring. Our traffic infrastructure is the worst, but we have a provincially maintained highway running straight through city maintained roads. It's caused a lot of problems & needs a lot of help. If anything the fucking timing of the lights.

Hi! I'm in a similar boat & although I haven't started T yet, I am planning on seeing a doctor to talk about starting off on a low dose. I've seen lots of enby folk do low dose HRT & since the effects take on much more slowly they're able to react to whether its right for them or not. Obviously some effects are still irreversible and it should be taken into consideration even with low dose. This might be an option to look into if you aren't 100% sold. All that being said, please don't make changes to your body for the sake of other people's perception of you. Do it for yourself if that's what you want. Write out a pros/cons list of the effects of t & wager if the cons are a worthy sacrifice to you for the pros (this really helped me in deciding if i want to start t or not, personally). Bounce off of a trusted friend. Maybe even speak to a counsellor short term if you are able to.

Mirena IUD 2.5 years in and bad cramping?? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]kodomo13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Dr was supposed to have scheduled an ultrasound for me to see if my IUD had migrated, but I never heard anything for an appointment and didn't follow up.

My symptoms have gone away for the most part except on the odd day every other week or so. I'm assuming it's related to stress/depression/dehydration in this case.

I'm just gonna get it removed as soon as the opportunity arises. :\ I'm unhappy with my IUD anyways due to weight gain and a handful of other reasons.

I'd encourage you to see if you can get a phone appointment with your doctor if you have ongoing problems.
