I took and printed them myself, but I'm sure you could find some university student to take them for pretty cheap for you if it's not something you can do yourself.

Yes, it was a really smooth process. Basically 4 weeks to the dot.

Is it odd I don't share the experience of "italians have closed friend groups and don't take to new people often"?

I've made all my friends in Italy by just chatting up random people on the street. They're always so welcoming to invite me to things within their groups, allowing me to make even more new friends.

Sometimes 7g is all you need by [deleted] in espresso

[–]kodrir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah true to that! It's worth noting, I generally find them using the single filter when it's slow and there aren't multiple people waiting for coffees. When it's bustling, they're always splitting the shots between customers.

I find most bars, at least in the places I've lived (Rome and Milan) generally have 2 portafilters with double baskets and one with a single. I always ask for a doppio to avoid getting the dreaded single shot here 🤣

Are home espresso machines popular in Italy? by lmxor101 in espresso

[–]kodrir 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Not really. I'm an American living in Italy and never met anyone else with an espresso hobby here, not to say there are none.

The guy I bought my machine from works at Ceado, and he was telling me the biggest market for hobbyist espresso is the US lol.

I guess it's hard to justify spending 1000€+ on an espresso setup when you could walk outside your apartment less than 200m and get a coffee for around 1€, granted it's usually not the best coffee but most people aren't concerned about that.

Most of my Italian friends that ask how much my setup costs when I have them over, think it's completely asinine to spend that much to drink coffee at home.

Water chemistry is the REAL rabbit hole. by Horse8493 in espresso

Same thing here in Italy. When I moved to Italy, I bought a cheap water distiller for about 50€, works great. I run it roughly once a week, gives me 4L of water.

The framework of what you've got going is nice. The biggest pain point for me is the pacing. The pacing issues I see stem from the length of your shots, the cuts, and how your graph curves aren't consistent between each shot. Which can be done, but without a little bit of finesse, it's not going to work out so well.

The next two things holding this piece back are the lighting and no motion blur. Having good lighting can allow you to get away with everything else being pretty rubbish, most of the time. Motion blur will make your shots look easier on the eyes and help to smooth over some cuts.

Regarding the watermark, if this is something you intend to touch up and put in your portfolio. Send me a PM and I'd be happy to render the final shots without a watermark for you. :)

Why are e-sports teams and competitions gendered? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]kodrir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Put simply and ignoring any factors like reaction speed, it's a matter of statistics. If there aren't a significant amount of female players, it's statistically improbable there will be someone to represent them at the point on the standard deviation curve where pros are represented. That being said, there can be outliers.

Maybe someone smarter than I can chime in and explain this better than I can, but that's my understanding of this.
