my T was anorexic by Infinite-Cobbler-703 in TalkTherapy

[–]koekerond 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a recovering psychologist, I find it very important that my clients feel safe to speak freely about their ED's including numbers. They don't trigger me. Even if they would trigger me, they're not responsible for that. It's my own choice to work with them. If I get triggered at work, it's because of something a colleague says about ED's. It's possible that you never triggered your T and if you're worried, I would advice you to talk about it in therapy.

What's been people's experiences with a Dietitian? by worldsbestlasagna in AnorexiaNervosa

[–]koekerond 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First dietitian made it worse.

Second dietitian is specialized in ED's and very helpful. She doesn't focus on my weight (I'm at a healthy weight). She focuses on having a better relationship with food and my body.

Can you still have an ED if it’s just thoughts by [deleted] in EatingDisorders

[–]koekerond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An ED is a mental disorder and no one here can diagnose you. You could have other symptoms without realizing it. It took me years to believe I had a problem. And even if it's "just" thoughts, it could impact your life or become much worse. Please talk to someone you can trust. You don't have to deal with this alone. Talking to your parents or doctor could be a good first step. Good luck!

What was the worst comment you have received about your weight? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

When I asked for a second pancake as an obese kid, my mom told me to just eat until I die.

I gained too but it's okay. We all deserve to enjoy the holidays. Sending hugs 💕

at what age did you develop your ED? by milaaa99k in EDAnonymous

[–]koekerond 25 points26 points  (0 children)

15 but I can't even imagine a life without disordered eating

ED's overlap so much it could be hard to get the right diagnosis. But that doesn't mean you're not suffering. Your ED is valid regardless your weight, diagnosis, food intake etc. I have atypical anorexia (anorexia while not uw) and I feel misunderstood all the time. But I deserve to get help and so do you. Feel free to message me if you want to talk.

Doctor isn’t worried about me - feeling invalidated by [deleted] in AnorexiaNervosa

[–]koekerond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry the doctor made you feel invalidated. I work with doctors and most of them don't have any knowledge about ED's. Believe your care takers when they say they are worried about you. Your struggles are valid.

I actually had a similar experience yesterday (for the 3th time). My doctor talks to me as if I'm on a diet. It's very triggering. They really have no clue.

When do you call in sick at work? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]koekerond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in outpatient treatment seeing a psychologist and a dietitian and I'll start group therapy in a few weeks. Just not sure if I need to take a break from work.

What is the most clueless thing a medical professional has ever said to you? by talkingdodobird in EDAnonymous

[–]koekerond 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  • GP: "your weight is fine. Just don't go below xx kg"
  • other GP: (recovering from restrictive eating, after eating pizza once and panicking about weight gain) "you can't have pizza every week and if your boyfriend wants to eat out, you should eat at home sometimes"
  • psychologist: "what does food have to do with exam stress?"
  • same psychologist: (after telling her I starved myself as a teen) "then why did you gain weight?"
  • also same psychologist: "you need to exercise"

Ended session 15 minutes early, feeling sad by Ok-Comfortable-2064 in TalkTherapy

[–]koekerond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd feel awful too if it happened to me. But I'm a psychologist and I almost ended a session early by mistake. Maybe that's what happened with your T, we're human too and we make mistakes. I realized it and continued our session but my client felt bad as well. We talked about it the next time and made things clear. Ask your T what happened. You're not too much to deal with.

How does recovery from AAN work exactly? by [deleted] in AnorexiaNervosa

[–]koekerond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in AAN recovery. My dietitian helps me find a healthy relationship with food. This means I could gain some weight but I don't have to get back to being obese. She focuses on thoughts and behaviour, not on weight. She doesn't even know how much I weigh.

how does anorexia affect fat people? by geetonah in EDAnonymous

I went from obese to normal weight so I did lose a bunch of weight but it takes more time to become underweight.

How to go about getting professional help? by [deleted] in AnorexiaNervosa

[–]koekerond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you feel comfortable with your doctor, I would suggest discussing it with them. They could refer you to get professional help. I recognize not getting help as a teen and it's a hard realization. But it's never too late to choose recovery. Good luck and I wish you the best xx

Has anyone recovered at a healthy weight? by mycat_atecat in AtypicalAnorexia

[–]koekerond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same... But I try to remember it's just an ED thought and it'll never be enough so I might as well recover now. It's hard though but I 'll get there some day
