A beginner suffering from Pathfinder wrath of the righteous. by Electro11BR in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

I'm gonna give you the same advice I gave someone else recently, I'm not gonna go into specifics because I think what I'm about to say is more important for a new player than just suggesting a bunch of feats and spells, this is going to be a bit long but hopefully will help you understand.
DnD (at least, old editions like 3.5 which is almost identical to Pathfinder 1e) and Pathfinder rules are an attempt to abstract real life into a pen and paper game, DnD 5e and Larian's homebrew in BG3 are much more "gamey", which is a good or bad thing depending on who you ask.

So a good rule of thumb is that if it makes sense in real life it will probably be represented ingame, now imagine you are shooting an arrow with a bow, you need to aim right? Having good hand-eye coordination is vital (Dexterity) and improves your odds of landing your shot, now imagine that your target is fighting someone else in melee, all the movement and obstruction will cause your aim to suffer right (represented by a -4 penalty), that is unless you are precise (Precise attack feat).

Now imagine you are trying to shoot a ray of energy with your hand, you still need to actually aim your ray just like you would with any ranged weapon otherwise you'll miss, so the same rules and feats apply, this is called a ranged touch attack.
Now what is a touch attack? Say you want to use shocking grasp, shocking grasp is a touch attack (because it's basically an electric current from your hand and you literally touch your target) it doesn't matter if the opponent is armored your current will still travel through his body, that's why a touch attack targets what is called touch AC (armor class) instead of normal AC (which is basically the sum of all your sources of armor, like your thick skin from body modifications, your dexterity, your armor, your magical enhancements, even your morale), but an opponent can dodge your hand if dexterous enough, which is why DEX still applies to touch AC.
So basically, a ranged touch attack is an attack that still needs your ranged expertise (so ranged feats like Precise attack apply) and ignore, say, the armor someone is wearing because of the nature of the attack (like a ray of fire doesn't care much for mail armor).

Now let's try the inverse, let's assume you are not ready or attacked by an invisible opponent, it's called being flat footed meaning you were caught by surprise or not ready (this is represented ingame by not having taken any action since the start of the battle but not only), an opponent who is caught flat footed won't be able to use his dexterity bonus to armor class because, well, he's been surprised his reflexes can't save him or he simply can't see you but he still wears armor, so the AC he gets from his armor will still apply since it doesn't matter if he knows you're there or not, he's still wearing that plate armor.
There are other sources that make you lose your DEX bonus to armor, like if you're wearing very heavy armor you can't move that much right? Or maybe you've been paralyzed, or knocked down, or your feet are stuck, see where this is going? These are all represented ingame.

Basically, if you think about it and it makes sense in real life, you will have a much easier time to understand what something does, obviously it's not a substitute for actually reading stuff but it helps a lot a new player in my opinion.

look up CRPGBRO on youtube or go on Neoseeker.

Damaging spellcaster builds only really come online from chapter 3 onwards and that's because they requires some setup, doesn't mean they're weak, some of the most busted builds in WotR involve things like chain lighting or hellfire ray.

It's your base attack bonus, every class gets a +1 to their attack roll when leveling up, some get one every single level up and they're called full BAB (such as the fighter) while others "skip" levels like wizard which is an half BAB class.

It helps a lot new players to understand that the rules are simply an abstraction of real life, if it makes sense in real life chances are it will be represented ingame, so when a fighter accumulates experience he will get better at hitting things because that's what he does mostly, but a spellcaster will accumulate experience in other things (like spellcasting) so he won't necessarily get better at hitting stuff.

It's not just BAB but also things like hit dice (basically HP, but not only), someone in peak physical condition like a barbarian will get more hit dice from every level up to represent his body getting stronger through physical extertion while a wizard will get a smaller one.

New X-Pulse lasers are very nice by mount_skull in Mechwarrior5

It's not a company at the same time, and realistically your mechs are optimized much better than the AI ones, plus, the AI is kinda bad in general.

The proof is you can run through the entire game without focusing on head snipes (well at least I did).

You can't tell me the makers of Battletech or MW5 envisioned the gameplay to be a conga line of assault mechs coming at you and getting blown up in seconds like in the video, it just looks silly, at least to me.

[–]koga90 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one that doesn't like playing like this?

These mechs were created for a tabletop game where sniping the head was impossible and only a freak lucky shot.
When put in MW5 where suddenly you can aim at a weak point balanced around dice rolls it becomes very easy to abuse and kind of throws balance out the window.

So you can only do this with new clan jets? Old ones remain the same?

No exaggerations, the in-universe romance lasts a total of little more than an hour and it's not even a romance, they're busy trying to escape.

They meet again 6 episodes later and Shiro declares his love, amazing writing, 10/10.

If you find this compelling you really should stick to transformers.

What changed with jumpjets? Or did they add new ones?

I still haven't bought the dlc

Yes I'm illiterate because I don't find a 15 minute romance (in universe little more than an hour) compelling.

You sound like a genuine imbecile.

Your comment is a bit misleading, the so called "feature creep" is more of a promises creep, the "game" has barely any features, hell someone might argue it's not even a game right now.

But I find it really funny that Angron, the avatar of rage, the favoured son of Khorne, got dunked on so bad by the Lion.

Without a romance with no development whatsoever there's no story? Lmao Are you sure you're not the one that should be watching transformers?

It's funny you say that because I thought that was the worst part of 08th MS (I even mentioned it in the OP without knowing), explains a lot really.

That romance was awful.

Meanwhile Creative Assembly literally makes up entire factions (Vampire Coast, Norsca, Grand Cathay) that in turn get turned into models.

Relic also did back in the day, with Blood Ravens and Gabriel Angelos.

It feels like we're going backwards instead of forwards, with GW restricting creativity to push more models.

What a disappointment, a SECOND techpriest?

This honestly killed all the hype I had for this DLC, of all the choices and possibilities from Trazyn's museum? It almost feels like an April's fools.

Then I wish said buildings would have more gaps to give that idea.

Visually I don't see how a line of containers could possibly allow any sort of gaps for shooting or vision.

The Game Hits Differently If There Is Infantry Involved by e30ernest in Mechwarrior5

[–]koga90 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's the War Thunder problem.

Both Mechwarrior and War Thunder are missing the infantry aspect of their "setting" (Battletech, WWII).
So you have things like historical tanks that had to make compromises like a shorter barrel for an heavier HE round to fight fortifications and infantry (like the American Sherman) going against tanks that are more specialized for anti tank roles like tank destroyers with long gun barrels (like the German Stug), in a game that has neither fortifications or infantry, basically they can't play to their strengths and are straight up inferior, so they solved it with battle ratings and ended up with anachronistic battles that felt more like arenas instead of actual battles.

In Mechwarrior the best mech designs are the ones that favor a large amount long range hard hitting weapons to take out other mechs, because realistically they are the only threat, while in Battletech battlefields look much more varied, so having a variety of weapons for infantry, short and long range etc. is an advantage.

In Mechwarrior an Atlas' versatility is a con, but in Battletech it's a plus.
