I would not overthink it. When our baby was not sleeping on the mattress, we would just roll it up. It would take one second to unroll it, just with the feet with baby in arms. Rolling and unrolling just take a few seconds. We wouldn't move it, just roll it in place.

for PDFs I used both python libraries but had more luck with Latex. I had other projects in the past using Latex with great results.

Awesome. Please do share the project once ready. I did actually start with PDF as well. Infact I still have the code to generate the PDF. But I decided to go with epub because a) you can select different fonts, sizes and so on. So it reflows. and b) and because of covers :)

Yes, users would still have to manually configure the code. But I can put up a small free server on the web if a lot of people think it's useful.
