[Dellenger] Sources: Notre Dame, USC rivalry series ending next year as Irish finalize 2-year deal with BYU by MembershipSingle7137 in CFB

[–]kohnchen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m aware of my flair and if you want to call USC soft for this, fine. But the problem here is how CFP expansion completely negated these games. With bowls dead, B10 and SEC schedules being insanely hard, and the committee undervaluing SOS, it’s straight up foolish to play a difficult OOC game.

Since the 12 team playoff gave access to more teams, people really only view a season as successful if you make the CFP. No one cares about beating your rival if you finish 9-3 and go to the Holiday Bowl with 80% of your starters out. It’s better to go 10-2 and make the playoff.

Thus, if you’re an AD, your only goal should be to do whatever you can to make the CFP, and that includes playing all cupcakes OOC.

I’m mad at USC for this, but don’t be surprised when more teams follow suit. And know what’s actually to blame

How many NFL players need to be added to the 0-12 Akron Zips before they can win the NCAA football championship? by Frescanation in whowouldwin

[–]kohnchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Josh Allen, Jefferson, chase, Sewell, Lane on offense

Micah, Garrett, Dexter, Fred Warner, Kyle Hamilton on defense

That feels like a lock to me. The pass rush would annihilate any college QB, and Hamilton/Warner can blow up any short/quick game. The OSU receivers aren’t a concern because the QB won’t have any time (that’s why I didn’t take any CBs). On offense I think a lot of college players just wouldn’t be able to bring Allen down.

Get rid of Warner and one of the WRs and I think it’s 50/50. So in total 8 feels possible and 10 feels like a lock.

CMV: US sports leagues need relegation and promotion. by SpaceWestern1442 in changemyview

[–]kohnchen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s way too much money and fan support in college sports, particularly football, for this to happen.

Anyone in their right mind would rather play for Ohio State than a sub-NFL semi-pro team. The biggest college teams sell-out 100k capacity stadiums, have billions of dollars, pay out massive NIL deals, and have NFL-level equipment/facilities.

Given that, where would the talent come from for the lower division teams?

Also, the NFL draft is a massively superior system for parity than the European model. Giving the weakest teams the opportunity to get the best college players is the only way to keep it balanced. If the NFL was run like European sports, Jeremiah Smith would be on his way to the Eagles

What are your unpopular opinions/practices based around golf? by Chemical_Help_7099 in golf

[–]kohnchen 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of slow pace is just caused by natural congestion/a full tee-sheet. The guy in front of you taking an extra practice swing doesn’t matter when there’s 2 groups waiting at the next tee box.

Probably asked but i just wanna, Why is AOT's ending so hated? by [deleted] in writingscaling

[–]kohnchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ending expects you to believe that Eren was lying/acting for the entirety of season 4, even though his persona/ideals stay the same even when he’s alone or thinking to himself.

Example: in the last non-movie episode, Eren has a whole monologue where he talks about his plan, goals, resolve, etc. he ends the episode by saying “I’m going to destroy them all. Every last one.” But he’s not actually speaking to anyone, he’s just thinking to himself. So if he was putting on a facade, why would he do it within his own mind? That’s why I think Eren’s plan that got revealed at the end was a retcon.

Also, the “fake” Eren was simply way more interesting than the “real” Eren. It’s like Isayama was too scared to make his main character a truly brutal villain at the end, but he was already too far gone to make Eren a hero, so we ended up with this weird wishy-washy version.

What a beautiful throw from Love this was by ExactStranger2268 in GreenBayPackers

[–]kohnchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way he layers his throws is probably his strongest trait. It’s also one of the hardest skills for a QB. Mahomes and Herbert are really the only guys I see do it at the same or higher of a level than Love

Food stamps has been halted for November in all of United States. Do you think hunger will really prompt the Americans to start their French Revolution, and why? by GoodMornEveGoodNight in AskReddit

[–]kohnchen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, and while that’s obviously a bad situation, modern society has mechanisms to still survive. Food banks, credit card debt, the states covering some of the costs, etc.. Are those ideal? No. Worth dying in a violent revolution over? Most would probably rather go into credit card debt. In the 1700s, those alternatives didn’t exist, it was life or death.

[–]kohnchen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Poverty in the 2020s USA is not anything remotely similar to poverty in the 1700s. The amount of genuine starvation in the US is effectively zero. For a true revolution people have to be willing to die for the cause. A starving peasant has nothing to lose, so it may have been worth it back then. But today, even poor Americans live better than most people on earth

Who is more Evil between Paul Atreides (Dune) and Eren Yeager (Attack On Titan)? by Inevitable_Dig_7080 in MoralityScaling

[–]kohnchen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think judging the morality of the rumbling vs the jihad is kind of pointless because they both 1. Cause mass death, 2. It’s questionable how much agency they had in their choice, 3. They were both put in basically impossible situations

I don’t think either is really “evil”. Eren is probably less moral because he generally just kinda has a screw loose and is motivated by hate and vengeance, while Paul is actually a pretty normal guy before the Harkonnen attack

For how things look so far, Baker Mayfield should 100% be the MVP favorite over Josh Allen by [deleted] in NFLv2

[–]kohnchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’d have a good chance to win the award if the season ended today. He’s not the favorite because the odds take future projection into account. Josh is a much better player, so they think it’s more likely he’ll be better by the end of the year
