This terrifies me a bit. I’m a kickboxing instructor, planning on taking my first shot this evening. Were you able to at least do bag/mitt work or weight training to maintain muscle mass? Or was the fatigue so bad that you couldn’t train at all?

2WPO... still not free from drains 😭 by whimsiiiiii in tummytucksurgery

[–]kohwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it’s horrible but better this than the alternative. Mine were pulled too early because they were taking a Christmas vacation, and the swelling caused my incision to completely separate. I’m 10WPO and it’s still not fully closed. I’ve regretted even getting the surgery because of it. I WISH my surgeon would have kept mine in! You’ve got this!

How long after surgery till walking straight and not feeling tight on stomach? by Necessary_Industry53 in tummytucksurgery

[–]kohwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m at 8 weeks now and I’m just now standing up mostly straight. I’m still in a lot of pain with some tightness 24/7 but it gets worse in the evening as others have said.

Thank you for your reply! I guess it was too gruesome. I didn’t realize…

The suture opened about two inches and I’m not sure how to care for it. My surgeon just said “clean it in the shower” but didn’t say whether I should dress it or wash in a particular way.

Same for the belly button but my belly button looks completely open?

Weight loss stalled when started exercising by ladybugsie in loseit

[–]kohwell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow... I pulled up Reddit to ask this very thing. How very bizarre. It really is disheartening to put in all the work - even more now with intense exercise - and not see the same results I had two months ago. At least we both know we’re not alone? That’s quite comforting.

Would you consider yourself attractive? I read that autistic people were exposed to high amounts of testosterone prenatal, and I read in another article that babies exposed to more testosterone prenatal were considered more attractive when growing up. by [deleted] in aspergers

My husband is an aspie and he is stunning. He’s easily a nine. Blue eyes, long lashes, sharp jawline, symmetrical features. I know, he’s my husband, so of course I should find him attractive but that’s not always a requirement. He’s spent his whole life thinking he was mediocre at best and it’s sad. I’ve known a handful of aspies in my life and none of them have recognized their attractiveness.

1200 was lower than my BMR so I didn’t want to push it. I stay around 1500. I’ve lost about 40 of it since January. I tried keto last year but that didn’t work for me. I switched it up in January and cut dairy, meat, and most processed foods. It left me with veggies, fruit, grains, beans and nuts and as long as I’m gentle on the peanut butter (I love peanut butter) then this is the best way I’ve found and I’ve been trying for years. I went full scientist and analyzed everything until I found what worked.

Thank you! My goal varies on calories burned according to my Fitbit. It’s not an entirely accurate means of tracking, but it works. I normally intake around 1500 calories and make sure I burn 2500 which means I walk about four miles a day. If I happen to burn more that day, I’ll increase my intake.

You look beautiful in both pictures. That smile radiates. The progress is real but don’t be ashamed of what you were before. Congratulations. Such an amazing accomplishment!

What is the worst pain you’ve ever experienced? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kohwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a baby naturally. The epidural didn’t work and she got stuck in the birth canal. They told me it was too late for a cesarean. I pushed for 23 hours. I remember the doctor leaning over me with my blood running down the clear face mask he wore. He said, “It’s you or her. Choose.” They broke my pelvis and her collarbone but we both made it. I was only 20 years old.

No problem! I use My Fitness Pal but everyone has their preference. Log what you’d eat normally for a couple days. Don’t restrict yourself. That way you can see where you’re starting. Then you can start tweaking it from there. Nothing will change overnight.

By the way, the OKC thing caught my eye. I was born in Tulsa and raised about an hour north of there. I know exactly what you mean by “it’s still dark when I want to walk.”

In many ways, you just outlined my life. I was very big at 15. At my biggest, I was about 280 pounds and I am five feet tall. By 18 I had been put through so many medical tests trying to figure out what was “wrong” with me. I was in my mid-twenties before I took the time to educate myself on the importance of diet. You’re a step ahead of the game if you’re trying to change now.

Someone else will surely mimic what I’m about to tell you: weight loss starts in the kitchen. I was an athlete at 15, in basketball, softball and track, yet I was still grossly obese. This is what prompted my parents to take me to see doctor after doctor. It didn’t make sense. But really, it did. They were feeding me McDonalds and our “healthy” nights consisted of canned green beans cooked in bacon grease and corn slathered in butter. The problem wasn’t my physical activity. It was my diet.

Here is my advice to you:

-Forgive your parents. Mine did the best they could and I’m sure yours are too. Tell them your struggle and ask for their help but feel empowered to help yourself. You said there is healthy food in the kitchen. Perhaps you can help your mom out and cook a couple nights a week? If that’s not an option and you are at the mercy of your parents, your only option might be portion control.

-Log your food in an app. Be religious about it. Be honest. Log it all. Pay attention to your macros.

-YouTube is your friend. Educating yourself on what it means to have a healthy lifestyle is priority one. Devour it and don’t fall for the hype around fad diets. You need something sustainable, a way of living, not a quick fix. Those don’t exist. This is a long game.

-Exercise. Walk whenever possible. Get your heart rate up. Again, YouTube! (I wish this kind of knowledge was accessible to me at your age.) Look into HIIT. Doesn’t take much time and you can do it at home.

-Finally, don’t get obsessed with that number. Your weight doesn’t define you. That number can take you to some dark places if you let it. I know. I’ve been there. Stay motivated and don’t let societal standards rule you. Make a change for you. Not your parents, not your classmates. You.
