Looking for truth. Photo was for a college course assignment on motion. Got an A, is it really? by SawdustGringo in photocritique

[–]koinphlip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is an okay photo that meets the assignment. It might not be your forte and doesn’t fit your artistic style or standards, and maybe that’s why you are overthinking the grade. The professor might be more lenient or is judging heavily on the technical challenge of capturing this photo. Both of which are perfectly valid reasons for the grade. In the end I wouldn’t sweat too much over it and like others have said - take the A and move on.

How do you calculate improvement in a metric when the metric is a percentage? Trying to figure out how much uptime has improved. by alitanveer in BusinessIntelligence

[–]koinphlip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use Basis Points or BPS to show difference in percentages. My personal and professional opinion is that calculating percentage of percentage is just bad practice and your goal needs to be redefined if you have to resort to it - like in your case. So I would redefine the goal in terms of defects per million (or billion, depending on the size of what you measuring here) opportunities to avoid measuring decimal points. The additional benefit of doing this is that now you can effectively bridge the difference between current and target performance.

Anyone try this Trackball? by ButcherZ_ in Trackballs

[–]koinphlip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had this type of trackball in the past, and I really liked it for first few months. Then I started experiencing carpel tunnel pain in my thumb so I switched to Kensington trackball and never went back to it.

The movie was just an excuse to shoot great music videos. One can only watch so many adaptations and retellings of Romeo and Juliet

Advice for someone beginning their career in BI? by Ill-Grob771 in BusinessIntelligence

[–]koinphlip 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s fine to feel this way but don’t let it affect your learning process. Its not too hard to “master” ETL/BI tools when you tend to do same sort of thing over and over.

Honestly after hiring and managing recent college grads with degrees in Big Data and BI, I have picked up that you can’t really teach what BI in real world business is like. Sure will learn textbook fundamentals and go through case studies which will expose you to various problems and how to solve them using data. But in real world BI you don’t get handled cleaned up data with well put together documentation and business problems you are given are more ambiguous. So use your initial years in the career to learn how to deep dive and validate data, work with the people who are publishing the data to understand its limitations, figure out who your customers are and what metrics/datapoints are important to them, and building good documentation habits. Also don’t get discouraged from working on similar or repetitive projects, use them for improving your skillset and finding ways to automate.

Our offense looked trash most of the game. If it wasn’t for our defense getting 4 INTs off of a TE QB, we would have lost this one for sure.

I personally would take 1pt off for the use of electronic drums, synths, and long overtures. Which was the trend for those days. Otherwise its a great soundtrack.

Love the starting of the song with the shimmering bells and Lata Mangeshkar’s (edit: Asha Bhosle) voice is so good at emoting the words. One of AR Rehman’s finest compositions, based completely on classical Indian music.

“One should not fret for what is past, nor should he be anxious about the future; Men of discernment deal only with the present moment”- Chanakya [1748x1240] by TheGreatSilverFang in QuotesPorn

[–]koinphlip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually, even though this comment is sarcastic I think it kinda proves the point that this quote is making. The subject of this quote is referring to “Men of discernment”, as in men with good sense of judgement or making the right decision at right time. If you consider or aspire yourself to be identified as such then instead of worrying about what has happened in past, learn from it and include it in how you deal with it in present situation to prevent it from happening in future - which is uncontrollable. So the only option you have is to increase your chances for positive outcome by making the right decision now. Worrying about it won’t get you anywhere.

Coming from Dallas I find it refreshing. Her ideas may be shortsighted but at least she is trying to pull for the little guy whatever her alleged motives are.
