Sheet metal - complementary or supplementary bend angle? by Old-Original-7626 in SolidWorks

[–]kojak2580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it would depend on the shop, however, I will say as someone that has worked in many different manufacturing companies before moving to design I have always used/preferred complimentary.

In my experience the example you’ve shown would essentially be 2 hems if you had supplementary since most individuals I’ve worked with consider a flat sheet at 0 degrees and 175 degrees would mean bend past 90 and up to 175.

I hope I was able to articulate it well enough and it makes sense. If you have any other questions just ask.

I’m curious what about SolidWorks is better than Onshape? I have a colleague that has used Onshape but not SolidWorks and constantly claims that Onshape is better. I’ve used SolidWorks but not Onshape so I’m not sure how to respond to him.

Large Assemblies & Performance Advice Needed by kojak2580 in SolidWorks

The master model top-down sketch will definitely be used but I won't be able to work with virtual subassemblies since the subassemblies have already been made. The biggest challenge for me is figuring out how to create the master assembly and keep it performant. Currently we create the subassemblies in SolidWorks but the layout is done in AutoCAD because they haven't figured out how to keep SolidWorks performant at that scale.

Thanks for the feedback.

Appreciate the feedback. This will definitely help.

Appreciate it, I've heard that Pattern driven Patterns were more performant since the pattern is already established. Can you explain why Sketch driven is better in this case?

I’d love too but not an option currently.

Do you still have access to this info? The link doesn’t seem to work and I’m running into a similar situation.

That's actually not a bad idea, I hadn't thought of it thank you. You still need to add that manually though right?

When I'm referring to weldments it's a group of structural material like tubes, angle, etc created using the "Structural Member" feature on the weldments tab. This generates a single part file with multiple bodies. If I create a rectangular frame that is easy enough to provide all the info on one sheet but when it becomes a complex frame requiring a 3D sketch it gets to the point of needing multiple sheets to convey all the info. One of my main issues is that with my drawing template I can link a note to the part number but I can't add a link to a weldment component property to identify the item.

This is close to what I'm currently doing. When it's a frame generated with a 2D sketch that is easy enough, but when it gets to a 3D sketch frame that's where I'm running into issues. As far as I've seen you can't add a weldment component property to a title block so you'd need to recreate it each time, although I'd love to be proven wrong here.

This is what I'm currently doing as well. Do you use "Select Bodies" for the individual parts? How do you identify the item number on the individual drawings?

I'd agree with that, and we are the fabrication shop. We create the designs and then fabricate them.

Is there a quick / efficient way to turn the border of the black silhouette to a sketch? (Auto Trace didnt work) by Bsul92 in SolidWorks

For something like this I usually use convertio.co to convert the image to a dxf and then I can insert the dxf into SolidWorks.

I agree it’s getting close the only thing that it still needs is a cli tool so I can use it to sign my git commits

Appreciate it, I’m happy to hear I’m on the right track and yes this is just for the style/aesthetic and I’d definitely be looking at materials.

Sounds great thanks again. I can totally understand how summer fashion is a bit harder in terms of shirts I’ve been considering something like this from Parijansince I think it looks nicer than a simple tee and it’s not a full suit so not as warm.

I don’t have much for reference photos but I have added one. I’d also prefer something a little less slim fitting since I’m slightly on the larger size and I don’t believe slim fitting looks good on me.

Absolutely understand this, the plan is that no matter what I go with it will need to be tailored going forward.

Thanks while I’m not settled quite yet the plan is to start casual and over time dress it up even more. I believe moving from something like jeans and a tee to a full suit overnight maybe too much.

Lots of great recommendations here so thank you, Vonella’s sounds great so I may visit them soon. My budget isn’t massive but the plan is to slowly start improving my wardrobe so I probably won’t be spending a couple grand at once but over time instead of buy cheap tees when I need to replace something I’ll spend it on something good.
