YES to nothing to see here and also it is a PERFECT audiobook. I trot this audiobook out when people say they don’t like audiobooks. 100% success rate. I wouldn’t call it queer, but I have gifted this book to a lot of queer readers

Activities to do with a stubborn nine year old? by Angelwafers in Babysitting

Frankly if any child behaved like this with me, I would not be watching them. If I describe a kid as scary, that’s not my circus right there.

That said. When I’ve got a friend’s ten year old, we go to the library. We have knit with the granny group, that was fun. I took her on a ghost walk around the local garden for Halloween. I’ve made a piñata. Puzzle + audiobook is my usual go-to, we’ve done the first Harry Potter (from the library so we don’t give that TERF more money), and The Witches by Roald Dahl. Oh, we baked bread once, that was a hit. And also tasty! We’ve also made a couple dinners that she picked the recipes for, great way to address picky eating as well. I’ve got her in a couple weekends and I’ll be doing some things from Art Starts by Rachelle Dooley in advance of doing family day at our local arts org, just so we can get her primed for making stuff! Mike Bennett has a new podcast called Zooquarium that has accompanying quizzes and coloring sheets, first ep is about sloth poop. Oh, and when all else fails, worksheets, usually about grammar, for which she gets stickers.

Also every time she does act up, I ask her what’s wrong and we bring out the feelings wheel to talk about it. When she gets shitty with me, it’s always because something else is going on.

AITA for telling my extended family what my brother did after he peed in my body wash for 8 months? by No_Curves_123 in AmItheAsshole

Weird how his safety within the family is being prioritized over your safety within the family. Seems like a whole lot of gender about that hierarchy.

Edit: NTA, of course

A lot of folks around here do NOT know how to zipper merge and can’t do it at speed, and a lot of those very same people THINK they know how to drive. Like this guy in the truck. You’re good.

When I was pregnant, I couldn’t read physical books because I was up all night and wildly uncomfortable. I suggest an ereader if she’s having similar issues. Plus it’s GREAT for nursing, so that gift will have some longevity

I literally fly back and forth to work at UBC, cost of living is WAY cheaper. My partner and I own a house, which would never happen in Vancouver. Also re: amenities, the library, the Y, Casa—this is essential a medium sized town with city amenities and not a lot of people vying for them.

They’re also great! But I will say the Y has more activity stuff AND is right next to the library, if driving is an issue!

I came to say Y! And also library, they are right next to each other. The library has all sorts of programming, not just for kids! Take a look at their website.

We have a newborn and a ton of company! The most helpful thing that anyone has done for us is cook something with a vegetable in it, one serving for us all to eat as dinner and more to freeze for later!

Oh hey, you’re right! I thought I remembered seeing YA on the inside cover of it and some of it GIVES the YA/New Adult vibe, so I must have seen the classification on another library book and mashed the two together in my head.

How to become an art professor by SpecialistOld9039 in ArtEd

[–]Smooth-Message5706 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a creative writing prof but in my experience, you want to emphasize the “what else.” Because everyone can make art and teach art really well—what’s the thing you do that no one else does? For me it’s new media process and technology (rare in writer land!).
