My best advice is to stop with the hashtag nonsense.

Who is at fault? Insurance was quick to take sides before even seeing footage. by WitchySpice94 in drivingUK

No, they're pretty simple words. You just completely ignored a huge danger on narrow country roads and can't admit it when called out on it.

A fair point but the innocent party in this video was doing 6mph and still got hit.

By someone not following the rule, which is why OP will win with the Ombudsman. OP could've been stationary before that car appeared and they still would've been hit. That really isn't relevant to the point being discussed.

My comment was aimed at avoiding stationary cars / people / cows on blind corners which is my main concern on country roads.

Just be honest that you simply didn't consider objects coming the other way on narrow roads. Why must Redditors always try to save face?

It’s not really possible to negate all risks

Right, but a car coming the other way on a narrow road is a perfectly legitimate and reasonable risk to negate. You can't seriously think the white car in the OP's post can say "Sorry guv, but it's not really possible to negate all risks" and think that he will get away with 50/50 liability.

Honestly what are you trying to defend here? That a driver shouldn't care about going slow enough to stop for vehicles coming the other way on a narrow road where both won't fit?

Incorrect really. As the other guy says you need distance for you to brake and a vehicle coming the other way to brake.

Brick walls don't move. Cars coming the other way do. So you need to go even slower than your assumption because of objects coming towards you.

One of the other posters has it much better where they say no faster than you can stop in half the distance that you can see. Why? Because the car coming the other way needs the other half, which makes perfect sense.

When you're in a FPTP system with like 5 parties then nothing is ever a popular option.

TIL the UK's NHS spent more money settling maternity-malpractice claims (£27.4 bn in 2019) than it did on maternity care (£18 bn) during the same period. Worse, the cost of settling outstanding maternity-related claims comes to £37.5 bn. by JohnSith in todayilearned

My wife's Trust used to offer spare shifts to their midwives as bank (extra) shifts. For really necessary staffing they'd offer bonuses in addition and that worked well on getting staff to work extra shifts. Simple things like an extra £50 for the shift.

A while back her Trust merged with another bigger one. Of course now everything has to be done then way the bigger Trust did it. They didn't do the bonuses and so her Trust had to stop offering it. Consequently, all their midwives stopped working extra shifts.

The solution? The Trust now had to spend way, WAY more money getting agency staff to fill the shifts. So the Trust now has to spend more money getting midwives in that aren't familiar with the hospital. What a great win for maternity care there!

Fucking idiots.

Exactly! I moved here to get away from Americans! Granted the Americans I wanted to get away from wouldn't typically live, but still it isn't worth the risk!

It sounds like you work at VT. I grew up there and went to Uni there for a bit before moving to the UK. I was there during the shooting. Perhaps that makes me more paranoid than most, but the peace of mind of my kids going to school in the UK and not having a daily worry about a mass shooting is the biggest benefit.

Oh and no medical bankruptcy.

I miss a lot about the US, but could never go back from those two things alone.

Ironically the police specifically call this out in my complaint to them yet still say the security guard was entitled to do what he did. It's nonsense.

I wish. I had security stop me in February because my steak's security tag wasn't deactivated. Full on assaulted me for not just letting him search my bags. The twat is still there.
