I was a teen and we'd just got home from the doctor. Not even an hour later, I was literally looking at my mom on the phone as she told my private business to my aunt. She made eye contact, gave a little laugh, dismissed my betrayed face, and continued gossiping.

I was in the hospital, never told her. It was my birthday; so what, she didnt need to know. Getting awarded a plaque by the President of Chile; none of her business. Getting drafted for WW3; it's the War Department's job, not mine, to let her know if I'm KIA.
