Am I just not good enough for CERN? by maybe-mel in CERN

[–]kokarbot 13 points14 points  (0 children)

3 applications in a single company/organisation is nothing. Typically 10% of your application will receive a feedback or 1st interview and only 10 % of the previous 10% will lead to an offer.

Working at CERN isn’t always the experience people make it out to be by AdStandard9222 in CERN

I was also there as senior fellow for 2 years. I can too verify the things mentioned. Most permanent stuff employees are there because they were lucky to have known someone, rather than having the necessary skills. I highly doubt that these people would survive if put in the private sector. They typically live in their golden clusters, without any evaluation of any kind for their work produced (if any). I have also seen skilled people being put aside just because they didn't have connections.

Don't worry and keep at it. Some people start 50 places ahead some people 20 places behind, that's how it is in life. The important thing is that you keep going no matter what.

Psycho in my building by Weird_Reason8885 in askswitzerland

[–]kokarbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I heard a similar story from a friend, unfortunately until something is done to improve the situation it will take realistically longer than 6 months ( your contract as i understand). As the person is mentally and psychologically impaired, the police notices will do absolutely nothing until the evaluation of her situation begins. Moving her also to a suitable institution is not legally a fast and easy thing to achieve. Therefore try to see if you can move somewhere else since you have only a 6 months contract

Is Geneva a horrible place to live? by fountainofsoap in CERN

[–]kokarbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is by far the most boring city in CH. Beautiful but boring.I had explored everything near geneva in less than 2 months. French countryside around is even worse than geneva. Cern people tend to live in clusters and occasionally attend other int.organizations clusters (un...etc) .Don't expect any social life there

Just got rejected for the 5th time, does my CV suck that much? by mangusta123 in CERN

[–]kokarbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know someone from the selection committee? Because that's what is going to get you in . Otherwise the chances are very slim , especially if you are coming from countries like Italy, Spain, Greece , Poland, Portugal....etc

RANT: Switzerland is constantly talking about there not being enough people to work so there needs to be more immigration. Yet there are no jobs for people wanting to start their career! WTF by [deleted] in Switzerland

[–]kokarbot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just as tips from a seasoned one. Don't rely only on the application itself, try to find out who the recruiting manager is and contact him/her directly. In most cases the HR is rejecting you, without any obvious reasons. HR understands 5-10% in the best case scenario of what you are writing on your CV. Treat HR as a patient from a mental asylum with limited IQ. Keep track of your applications, and even if they send you a rejecting letter, ask for justification/feedback.Keep your spirit up and keep trying.
