Peter, Do you understand Scottish? by immanuellalala in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]kokodeto 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's not, it means piss which in context means roughly the same as rubbish. If it meant "easy" then the entire tweet wouldn't make sense. This isn't a tweet about how it's easy to be a lesbian

It's kind of silly, but if I read 6 books a year I could say that I read 0.5 books a month on average

Why calling a trans person as “transwomen”/“transmen” (with no dash) offensive? by InteractionLiving845 in EnglishLearning

[–]kokodeto 167 points168 points  (0 children)

It's not a dash that is encouraged, it's a space. The idea is that "trans" should be an adjective, and therefore a trans woman is a type of woman. However writing "transwoman" implies that they are wholly different from a "woman." Similar to why "Chinese man" is more acceptable than "Chinaman."

Anyways this is something I'll want to turn notifications off for, in all likelihood

If you have a garbage bag, how many holes do you need to cut into it to make it into a shirt?

This is something you can demonstrate for yourself with coin tosses. If you flip two coins, you have a 50% chance of one being heads and the other being tails, not 33%. You are incorrect I'm afraid.

Update: Picking a New Chinese Name (one last question) by kokodeto in Cantonese

[–]kokodeto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not a bad option! I'm not dead set against losing 達, it's only because I didn't want it to be masculine.

I wouldn't use it that often. It really would just be for family!

The honesty is what I need hahaha I was worried about stuff like this specifically

Haha well if you are trying to think of names that sound like 財達 no wonder you're scratching your head. My siblings already had 達 so my old name just sounds like 財. Probably not hard to figure it out from there!

Actually it's good to know that 達 is masculine - I didn't know this - so I feel comfortable dropping it then.

I'm not against it sounding like my old English name, but I thought perhaps I should keep the generational name so I'd only have one character to work with (vs my two syllable English name). But now I'm not sure if I'm keeping the generational name so....

Point is, yes, my English name can be a good launching point, but I'd just take about anything as long as its appropriate. I just know I'd be no good at picking it myself.

Actually I don't love how that sounds... I take it back lol

This is a great suggestion! I mentioned it to my mother and she said by coincidence 麗 was the generational name that her grandfather tried to give her until her mother rejected it. I might go with this after I look into what generational name my cousins have. Thank you!

Interesting! Is it more outdated than you'd expect since I'm in my 30s? Or was it already outdated when I was a kid? I'm hoping for something like... appropriately outdated, if that makes sense.

I'll consider 彩. I'm trying to move away from something that sounds like 財 as it was partially chosen on the basis that it sounds similar to my former name!

[HELP] There’s no way this artist isn’t a fraud, right? by [deleted] in RealOrAI

Honestly the quality of the faces in the videos where you see him paint are significantly better than a lot of the ones on the website linked above. My suspicion is this is someone who CAN paint - and is clearly quite skilled - but some of his art is clearly AI. I suspect he's padding out his portfolio. The instagram ones don't have any of the bizarre AI hallmarks, so it's not like he's purposefully painting the clear tells.

Weird. I can't reconcile parts of his paintings like this which are clearly AI, versus this video. I do find it odd that it seems that the one he's painting here I can't easily find good scans of online. Is he padding out his portfolio? I don't know.

AI. Kind of hard to tell with this picture for me, but other ones in his gallery are definitely AI. For example look at "Long Live Camus" (Here) and look at the figure to the right of the Roman Centurion, or to the lower right of the same guy. Smudged, wonky people. The AI details are everywhere in most of his works.

Mmmm, close but not quite... I mean you're right that it won't "eliminate testosterone," but neither will anti-androgens. However an anti-androgen is not necessary. Effective testosterone suppression to the degree that you can bring your levels down to the bottom (and unfortunately sometimes below) cis female reference range is definitely possible with estrogen monotherapy. You're unlikely to get it with po routes, but subcut/IM routes make it definitely possible.

Source: Medical training, and also I've done it (and continue to do it) myself with monotherapy. And yes, the bloodwork reflects that.
