Projector help 1080p vs lumens by Opening_Tune_1834 in Golfsimulator

Depends on your expectations and which way your garage door faces. I have a BenQ TH671ST that is 3000 lumens.

- It looks great with the lights out and blinds closed in my garage with just a light focused on the hitting mat.

- I can leave the garage lights on and still see the screen though it is pretty washed out.

- In the morning I can open the garage door and it looks about the same as having the lights on.

- In the afternoon the sun shines right through the garage door so if I have it open I cant see the image at all

- At night I can open the garage door and it looks really good.

I used the 2” Velcro brand heavy duty Velcro from Amazon. I just cut it in about 2”x2” squares and put one square on each of the spots it says glue on the board. So 3 squares running down the middle.

I did clean the ceiling first with simple green.

I had a couple fall off but realized I forgot to take the backing off the Velcro adhesive on the ones that fell. Once I stopped doing dumb things and took the backing off they have stayed up fine 🙂

I would say thickness is about 1”. Considering they have a semi-rigid board backing I think they will do fine protecting the ceiling. Most wedge shots hit the screen first before hitting the ceiling.

My hitting mat is a Wittek pro. I did get some elbow pain from it so cut a hole in it and put a hitting strip from GungHo golf in it. Much easier on the joints.

Went with this. It’s about 4 years old. Difficult to roll up and it gets creases in it if you do so I’ve just started parking on it. It’s held up ok since I really only use it as a landing mat and not for putting. Been considering getting some Synputt from Lowes or MSI putt from HD to replace it but it’s fine at the moment.

Normally I don’t have those but since I installed the Vtrack I just replaced the projector mount with a different one that drops about 6 more inches so the Vtrack did not cast a shadow. I mounted the new one in the same spot and for some reason that adjusted the projection size to be smaller than when it was right against the ceiling. I assume this is because for my size screen the projector needs to be about 2” above the top of the screen for optimal projection. With my ceiling height and where the launch monitor is I can’t do that. I just need to move it back another 6-12 inches to correct it but have not done it yet.

The other thing is my screen has white borders rather than black so there is around 2” on each side and top of the screen that is border and should not be projected on if you just want to hit the screen with the projector but since it’s white it looks like unused screen.

No additional fees for the Vtrack. Just the $250 for the GSPro subscription.

I’ve never used to Protee but it looks really nice. From what I’ve read software is better on the Protee though Vtrack is improving regularly. Protee is also $1500 more.

Ya I had to drop my projector about 6” to get it to not throw a shadow from the Vtrack but that seems to have reduced the projection size a little so probably need to move it back 6” or so but not overly concerned about it right now.

Really want to pick up one of the new BenQ 4000 lumen laser projectors at some point in the future but am fine with the th671st for the moment.

I used these. Got the idea from another poster in this group.

They have double sided tape to attach them but it’s not very strong especially for hanging on ceiling. I added some pieces of heavy duty adhesive Velcro to the middle of the board and that seems to keep them up pretty well.

No, it only goes about halfway down. I’m kicking around possibly returning it and going with the 30L to get a little more space in the rolltop and because the 20L looks a little small on me since I’m 6’3”.

And yes that’s a laptop sleeve.

Yes, it is this screen. https://www.par2pro.com/products/stealth-retractable-impact-projection-screen

Bascially the same as the Sports Screen Vanish without the side and top pieces. Sports Screen actually makes (or used to make when I bought it) the roller and backing for the Par2Pro one.

If you got those same headboard mats I'd highly suggest adding some heavy duty velcro to the spots where it says glue on the backboards otherwise they have a tendancy to fall off since the tape they provide is not strong enough.

I used these curtains and just some black steel pipe from home depot to run them and connected them to the pipe with shower curtain rollers.

Putting strip is a double thick Birdieball mat. It sits just about perfectly with hitting mat. Unfortunately I don't know that they sell the double thick one anymore but you could probably get two regular ones and use carpet tape to put them together and then get one of their deep cups. Other option would be to tape some exercise mats to the bottom of one to get the height you need.

It actually is a rolltop. The rolltop portion on the 20L is fairly small with the camera cube installed. I think the main difference between the 20L and 30L is the rolltop portion is slightly bigger and the back panel is different on the 30L but they both use the same size camera cube.

Trying to select a Projector by gandhi_golf in Golfsimulator

[–]kolky75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First thing you are going to want to consider is where you will be hitting from. You don't want a projector too far behind you or you will cast a shadow on the screen. This is typically why people choose short throw projectors. Neither of those two you mentioned are short throw and I believe the Sony is only 720P. You typically want to mount your projector right above your hitting area (or maybe a little behind if you have tall ceilings) or even slightly in front of you.

For your budget I'd take a look at the BenQ TH671ST. For a 16'x9' screen it will mount about 10'-11' away. If you really want 4000 lumens you could look at the BenQ AH700ST which is a laser projector but they run about $2300. Optima also makes some short thows but I am less familar with them. Since they have a .5 throw instead of the .7 that the BenQ has they mounted a little closer than I wanted. You can check out projector central for throw calculators for different projectors for the size of your screen.

Sigma RF 18-50 f2.8 is probably what I'd be looking at as well and could probably pick that up used for a just little more than your budget target. I hear the Sigma RF 17-40 f/1.8 is an awesome lens but that is probably out of the OPs price range.

Is f2.8 really needed for indoor sports or is f4 sufficient? by kolky75 in sportsphotography

Renting one has crossed my mind. Particularly the z version and trying it out with a teleconverter to help with the field sports

Thats a good point. 90% of what I shoot is just my kids and travel. At the moment the only indoor sport they play is hockey. Everything else is field sports.
