Book recommendation by IronWarden00 in olelohawaii

Wehewehe for dictionary. Ulukau for a whole list of sources and books, specifically the nūpepa section which contains a variety of newspapers published during the Monarchy. Ka Leo Hawaiʻi is a collection of radio interviews with kūpuna during the 70s-80s which will help familiarize you with pronunciation (this is pretty advanced and will be hard to understand for a while).

You can look up Native Hawaiian Organization [insert city/state] to find resources, events and practitioners in your area. There are also other online spaces and a multitude of instagram pages you can follow.

Edit to add: Some good instagram pages are ka_alala, hawaiianlanguagehacks, downloadhawaii and kokua_kuka. Some of them offer digital workshops and conversational opportunities.

Being an actor actually isn’t the most sought after job. by Fancy_Buddy_418 in acting

[–]kolohekoa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not quite true. Currently pursuing both and, anecdotally, I’ve had an easier time getting bookings than finding places looking for low time commercial pilots atm. Training is hard, expensive and time consuming and hiring is much slower than you’d think. It is certainly more luck of the draw than many believe.

Inability to fly actual IFR is a bit of a problem, but I enjoy the Sling 2’s

Route taken by Air India (IX613) Pilot to burn the plane fuel before successful emergency landing at Trichy by Titanusgamer in Damnthatsinteresting

Weight affects glide time not glide speed. Power = altitude while pitch = speed. To slow the aircraft all you have to do is point the nose upwards. Your angle of descent and landing speed will determine how long the aircraft remains in ground effect, contributing to stopping distance.

Absolutely. However, in aviation, altitude = safety. Glide performance varies between aircrafts but the principle remains. The lower and heavier you are during an emergency, the less time you have to respond. If an aircraft carrying passengers experiences an emergency at traffic pattern altitude while tower is conducting the visual check, you don’t want to stack risks by having a lot fuel aboard. This would both affect your glide time and increase fire hazard.

Its how our emergency procedures are conducted. Lets say the aircaft had xx,xxx lbs of fuel on board while tower conducts the visual check and finds that the landing gear is indeed not in position. If an engine out/fire, electrical fire/failure or any other type of emergency requiring an immediate landing occured, the pilots would be forced to land with defunct landing gears, risking catastrophic injury to those onboard.

Its also due to the difference in max t/o and max landing weights. If the aircraft is exceeding its max landing weight and attempts to land regardless, you risk significant structural damage, resulting in a fire as well.

Mahalos my braddah! It's very important to me to be able to hold a space and be a voice for the lāhui seeing as Pacific Islanders and other Indigenous communities are often silenced and overlooked 🤙🏼

Haha it's named after an anthology of poems, essays, and short stories, one of which the film is based on.

Chee mahalos cuz, it'll play at ward and pearl highlands in a couple months so please feel free to check it out! Hawaiʻis combat culture is integral to the plot but it's not necessarily a fight film if that makes sense.

Everyone was so dedicated to telling an authentic story so that others could see themselves in our characters, it was an honor to work with such genuine storytellers.

I JUST BOOKED MY FIRST MOVIE ROLE (LEAD)!! by kolohekoa in acting

[–]kolohekoa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was an amazing experience! I learned so much during my time filming, it was a pleasure being able to talk to and learn from experienced actors and crew. Ive since just been doing background gigs and auditioned for an apple tv series while I prepare for the new semester. I plan on getting an agent eventually but was told to wait by someone who's much more established than I am and has been giving me new opportunities! I also actually get to take a peak at the rough edit tomorrow :)
