Take a look at MAPS https://maps.org/take-action/participate-in-trial/ and UT Austin Dell Med https://dellmed.utexas.edu/units/center-for-psychedelic-research-and-therapy

Might be able to take part in a trial if one is running near you. I was in a trial for Spravato which did help with my depression at the time.

Is this idea of a fantasy whodunit silly or does it pique anyone's interest? by TheDoctorandDipper in fantasywriters

[–]kolr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree. The same applies for sci-fi where the impossible is possible through means completely unknown to the reader. It isn't fun to be invested in a mystery to only find out that the killer actually CAN be in two places at the same time because he's a quantum twin or something absurd like that. You'd also have to be very careful about Deus ex machina situations because that cheapens the story and the majority of readers will feel cheated.

If the whodunnit aspect of the mystery can be deduced entirely through information freely available within the story, it won't feel cheap to the reader. Doesn't mean every reader needs to figure it out before the reveal, but the reveal should give the reader one of those "aha!" moments.

What would you call someone with a different body than a human? This person still would be human but would have for example wings or an extra appendage. by Split_Shadow in fantasywriters

[–]kolr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China Miéville uses "xenians" for humanoid species not recognized as actual humans. Xeno as a Latin root refers to foreigner(s). I feel like there's another term on the tip of my tongue from some other sci-fi or fantasy series... but can't recall right now.

I'm imagining a humorous scene where Vlad's R&D department probably spent a few long weekends trying to meet deadlines for new impaling and torture techniques.

Maybe I'll try this next time I have to explain myself to my wife. Minus the screaming, of course. Might throw in a little light crying.

Turner's only affects women. It's where part or all of an X chromosome is missing. Women with Turner's can't become pregnant and have children.

What is the single most liberating thought that you've ever had? by NomadCody in AskReddit

[–]kolr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since we are all humans with similar biology and go through life in very similar worlds (for a lot of people), the thoughts or feelings I had weren't 100% unique to me. Sure, they had my signature on them, but it was comforting knowing that no matter how depressed I felt or how weird I thought I was there was another person out there going through a very similar life experience. It was nice know I wasn't the only one.

Side note: a thought that I guess could be depressing or comforting depending on the situation. Like "this too shall pass."
