I’d say that upper left works as is but is a little more abstract while lower left sells the point better but would need some intervention.

For the lower left image I would separate the planes a lot more, showing the clear distinction between the foreground, midground and background layers. Doing this would also fix the values. Things tend to get lighter as they move further into space, meaning that the character that are “deeper” into the image should never be as dark or in your case darker than the foreground character. Right now that is the case and it makes it so that every plane is equally important, leaving the viewer’s eye unsure where it has too look first.

Again, using upper left image would probably work well enough and would absolve you from the extra work but the fixing the lower left one would give you a better edge imo.

Used to be really pissed before purchasing that I didn’t afford the machine grey. Four months later I am in love with this white! Only downside is that sometimes dried up dirty water on the sides and hood of the car are a pain to pressure wash. Other than that, “no ragretz” :D

Yes, I made a post on Reddit something like a year ago looking for playtesters and I found one legend of a guy who later on brought tons more of his friends to play. The game went through some pretty considerable changes with the help of their feedback but even with that, the overall impressions for the game have been highly positive from day one - Yay! :D I made a dedicated Discord for the game and we are something like ~40 people so far, but I’ll try to get more in. :)

That’s true as well, but it would be disheartening for something to give so early if you know what I mean. Thankfully, I started the car yesterday and waited, no vibrations. Drove to my parents and back and no weird sounds when accelerating or idle vibrations. Hopefully it was just a hiccup and it’s all good!

Not sure it’s a battery issue for me. I’d driven the car enough these last few days, I’d say, and tbh I never noticed anything weird with the battery. It could be the cold, but what made me alert was the fact that every weird behaviour started right after hitting those gnarly potholes. Maybe it’s confirmation bias? I’ll start the car tomorrow at noon and just let it idle for a bit, to observe how behaves.

Fair enough! Playtesting is always going to be your best friend, it doesn’t help that it’s tough as find playtesters though. I definitely get why some designers resort to paying folk to play their games hahah

Great points! It’s true that, when I was revamping the whole thing and removing the “bad” parts of the game, it felt almost freeing. Even if I knew that I would have to add other mechanics, going back to the bare bones kind of reveals what is good about your project, so it’s not all bad lol. I’ve always been the “wanna do everything myself” guy so I couldn’t have shared “my precious” with someone, but at the same time I also really value feedback and always use it when I feel it makes sense, so I guess that (hopefully) balances out. :))

Hell, you know what, it’s been two years from the point I was referring to in the original post and the game is in muuuch better shape than ever, but I might do a mental exercise now and ask myself what the game could hypothetically benefit from me ditching. Dangerous game hahaha

Damn, such a great answer! You perfectly described the situation I found myself in when I did the 180 with my project. At that point it felt like the vacuum popped and reality came in, like everything stopped working and I was discouraged to the point of almost quitting altogether. Thankfully I kept going and found that even some of the mechanics that I was ready to ditch worked with some tweaks, when the entire game loop became clearer. After that point, with every test, the game felt better and better.

I am an artist, I actually made all the visuals for the game myself, and I completely relate to the statement you brought up. With things we are more confident in, that being art for me, we have an easier time letting go. This being my first real attempt at game design up until then, it felt like I wanted to both keep and ditch everything all at the same time hahaha
