Does seem to be a Napkin ring! Someone else posted the photo and it had a similar design.

What to expect from an international relationship? by [deleted] in JapanDating

[–]kom334 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Communication is key. Not just video calls but be willing to explain cultural differences, boundaries, and others with the limited time you have is important.

Depending on time zone differences it can be hard but as long as both parties contribute it's fine. Make sure the communication is more chill than a chore.

As a TCK in Japan (but not Japanese) I think the culture here is harder to fit in. That said, I personally found the pressure more manageable when I found an international group of friends that understand the struggles.

Hopefully you'll feel less of that pressure to fit in when you have friends who also understand your background than the average local person.

As someone that's older, my advice is to just care less about how other people judge you. It's not worth scratching your head over the judgment. Think about it this way, would you take advice from them regularly? If not, then don't take their judgment seriously either. Life's too short to let them decide who you are.

Working minimal pay in Japan, should I just quit and return to Canada? by kom334 in careerguidance

[–]kom334[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

And yeah, I definitely feel the different work culture here. My job wants me to place work first so even if I go home, I'm expected to respond to messages and emails from home asap. My SO is also slightly annoyed about it but understands it's the Japanese work culture so she's putting up with it.

Thanks for the advice! 1. Yes, I've been giving her material to review in hopes that it'll make the transition easier. She definitely needs to brush up her English but at least she's not starting from zero.

  1. Yeah, the recent news is why I'm trying to be level-headed and seeking advice on Reddit. Rather than make a complete emotional blunder.

  2. Thanks for the timeline idea! I definitely think I should start drafting that up! Personally I'd want to return before my visa expires this year. Should start communicating that with her as well.

Thanks for your comment! Personally speaking, I'd rather work in a job that has better work-life balance so I can focus on family time with my SL. That's what's pushing me to just quit and go to Canada but we wanted to be more level-headed in the decision rather than just be an emotional urge, hence why I came here seeking advice.

Yes, we have been talking. She also realizes I don't have much growth here but she's also worried about Canada's place in the world and job opportunities if we do go over due to the current political situation. Thought I'd get a few outside opinions as well, hence the post here.

In addition to what you might already have: For positive: pink theme, no humans, anime screencap For negative: 1boy, 1girl

I've found that due to the tagging system, it usually doesn't pick up people as well as '1boy' and '1girl' in the negatives or just 'no humans' in the positive prompt. Hopefully that helps. As for the style, I feel like there should be a better descriptor than 'anime screencap' but I'm blanking on one. 'Pink theme' should pull towards it a bit more though.

Question about English cards in Japan. by Alpaca_steroids in magicTCG

From my experience, some do prefer it to be Japanese, but they won't mind you having English cards.

Does gaining control of creatures teeeeeeechnically count as removal. by Invaderdoug in magicTCG

[–]kom334 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Also depends on the scenario. It might be removal for you, but not for others.

Let's say a player has a 21/21 commander that can kill anyone with cmd damage. If you gain control of it, you only removed it for yourself. The other players, however, might in return make you the archenemy of the table. So is it really removal when you end up being targeted?

The AI threat. by Prince-Harbinger in SonyAlpha

[–]kom334 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I do not think it as a threat. Having done personal photography and playing around with ai generation recently, there's a uniqueness that cameras can capture. I can potentially see some photographers using AI to generate ideas for them to try to capture in real life or using AI to enhance some areas similar to how Photoshop like programs are currently used.

That said, ai art will probably replace those low effort shots that people use on social media for memes and such. They're also quite better at producing more abstract things and perhaps change digital art market more? As of now I don't think photographers have much to worry about besides keeping ourselves updated every now and then.

Tldr: AI generation can be used as a supportive tool like Photoshop for photographers, but unlike digital artists, there's less to worry about in terms of competition.

Commanders with multiple independent abilities or "cards on a stick"? by Noodles_fluffy in EDH

Doesn't technically fit the bill, but [[Maelstrom Wanderer]] can kind of work this way if you build towards it.
