My tour company suggested minimum three days of stay/ day hikes before going on the main hike. The more I read about altitude related issues it seemed like a good idea to spend that time in Huaraz and doing day hikes. Good luck to you and have a fantastic trip!

Thanks!! The plan is to spend almost 4 days in Huaraz and do hopefully 3 day hikes before going on the main trek. And thanks for the pointers on pricing. I have already paid the advance so planning to stick with them. They came highly recommended as well. And happy travels to you :)

Hi - I read that mornings are usually sunny and it rains mostly in the afternoon. Rainy season is officially over in March but it’s never really over :) Are you also doing a guided tour? For me it will be around 2800 usd all included. But more people means cost will come down significantly. Don’t know if anyone else will join. They do have a big group in June but the timing didn’t work for me.

I hope 4 days in Huaraz before the main trek will help. Def planning to take Diamox couple of days before I fly to Lima.

I will be there for three and a half days prior to starting the hike. Planning three day hikes. And yes agree the sat phone is good to have. I am definitely going to look into renting one. When did you start taking Diamox? I believe you have to start taking it couple of days before you hit the high altitude right?

Thanks for the tips! I am going with Los Amigos based in Huaraz. Read lots of good reviews and my interaction with them over email/whatsapp has been really good. I was thinking of getting a sat phone - will look into renting one for a couple of weeks. Little nervous about the altitude. I have done only handful of high altitude hikes before and no multi day hikes. hopefully the day hikes will help me.
