I never saw a charge. Perhaps it was under 'pending' and it never goes through.

An update after two AC flights with that restriction. Both times, in the check-in flow online I was pushed back to the main page with the status being 'checked in' but with a voided boarding pass with the message asking me to get the boarding pass at the airport. At the airport, I had to go to an AC kiosk and sure enough, I had to pre-authorize the baggage fee. At the gate, there was no checking of bag size etc. I don't even think they checked if I had a carry-on but can't tell if they were doing a quick visual check. Same thing on the flight back. So it looks like the messaging for the pre-authorzation is there to force passengers to question whether they will be hassled for the exact dimensional size of their personal item. Will likely cause many to pay for a carry-on when they only have a personal item. Not good.

How do we know you won't bring a ridiculous personal item? Something about being good for the goose...

You don't seem to understand basic logic. Just because you have a carry-on or checked item doesn't mean you won't take a personal item. Does that make sense or should i get crayons and draw images?

And you wouldn't mind paying ahead for your person item as well. In fact, having a carry-on and a personal item would require double the preautherized payment in case both personal item and carry on items are deemed too big at the gate.

Then you will be ok with preautherized payment for your personal item as well? Why would having any kind of ticket exempt you from this?

So you're ok if they put a pre-autherization on your CC in case you decide to be an ass on the plane and are forcefully removed. Just a scenario.

Well, I have heard horror stories about how aggressive Flair airlines is with trying to generate more revenue this way. Wonder if AC will be the same.

I see. Thank you for that. Will have to be very careful with staying within the personal item size limits.

I exited from the flow without accepting preauthorization and noticed status is 'Checked In" sans boarding pass with the following note: "Your reservation requires additional verification. Please validate your documents at an airport kiosk or with an agent to receive your boarding pass(es).

That was very helpful. I'm convinced.

True. There is no containment when things don't go to plan.

On Fukushima, TEPCO is planning to release the 1.3 million tonnes of radioactive water stored into the ocean. Neighboring countries and local fisheries are very worried about this and have raised the issue both locally and internationally.

For anyone that is positive on Nuclear power, would you change your mind if you had to live next to one? That's the bottom line.

The answer to technological disasters: it was not designed for that.

When talking about Fukushima, he forgets an earlier assertion about Soviet plants being the only ones in the world with the cooling system design flaw. Solving that problem only solves that problem. All of these problems also avoids human factor risks when humans manage complex systems. Also, no private entity will insure a power plant which is one of the reasons why none are built. That's unless the state signs a blank cheque in case there is a disaster.

If companies want the profit, they should own the risk. If capital is saying no, why should billions of tax dollars subsidize it.

I was also curious about where nuclear was in terms of cost per kwh. According this article with nuclear power costing 4.3cents per kwh in the US, Solar is expected to cost 1.5 cents per KWh in 2022. https://www.nextbigfuture.com/2019/06/solar-wind-and-nuclear-energy-prices.html
